Ramirez in Saturday's Lineup

Saturday, April 25

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com noted that Ramirez returned to the lineup:

Ramirez exited Friday's game after he fouled a pitch off his foot. Brian MacPherson of The Providence Journal and Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com described the action:

The Red Sox made some noise this offseason when they brought Ramirez aboard, but he was an injury risk after he played in 86 games in 2013 and 128 games in 2014. That reared its ugly head Friday although it was a freak play that could theoretically happen to anyone.

Ramirez is a source of speed and power in the Boston lineup and had 191 career home runs and 261 career stolen bases entering the 2014 season. At his peak, Ramirez drilled 33 home runs in 2008 as a member of the then-Florida Marlins and stole 102 combined bases in 2006 and 2007.

The 31-year-old wasn't expected to put up numbers like that this season for Boston, but he is an important middle-of-the-order bat.

While Ramirez is still settling in on defense as an outfielder, Boston needs him in the lineup if it hopes to compete for an American League East crown.
