Michael Sam Reportedly Accepted to 2015 NFL Veteran Combine
Michael Sam continues to chase his NFL dream, and the next step toward realizing it was taken Friday as he was approved to take part in the upcoming NFL Veteran Combine.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former St. Louis Rams seventh-round pick will take part in the inaugural event on March 22:
The new combine was created as a way to allow players with previous NFL experience to show teams what they can do in hopes of landing a contract.
Per Tom Pelissero of USA Today, the acceptance of Sam into the combine is positive for both the former University of Missouri star and the NFL Veteran Combine itself:
Sam is in an interesting situation since he is set to compete on the 20th season of "Dancing With the Stars" starting in March.
Despite his participation, Sam maintains that his focus is on football and that "Dancing With the Stars" won't interfere with the NFL Veteran Combine:
Sam narrowly missed making the Rams' roster last year after a strong preseason, and he was eventually signed to the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad after getting released.
He was eventually let go by the Cowboys as well, and he spent the majority of the NFL season hoping to receive a call from another team.
While Sam didn't catch on elsewhere, he has a chance to change that by putting forth a great performance at the NFL Veteran Combine.
If Sam is able to do that, then teams could be lining up to acquire his services due to the insatiable need for quality pass-rushers in the league.
