Marcus Mariota Reportedly Signs with Rep 1 Sports Ahead of 2015 NFL Draft

Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, who could be the first player selected in the 2015 NFL draft, has reportedly chosen Rep 1 Sports to handle his contracts at the next level.

Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal reports a trio of agents will handle negotiations for the Oregon product after he's picked:

Rep 1 Sports lists eight other quarterbacks among its clients on the agency's official site. Included in that group are Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Blake Bortles of Jacksonville Jaguars, the third overall pick in last year's draft.

Mariota is likely to engage in a lengthy battle with Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston to determine who will come off the board first. The Ducks star isn't sure exactly how much work he'll do leading up to the draft, though.

He told Dave Reardon of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that he was still working on getting back to full strength after a shoulder injury. That makes the NFL Scouting Combine a question mark for him.

"Right now we're still making that decision, whether to throw at the Combine. I had to kinda rest about a week-and-a-half," Mariota said "I sprained the AC joint (in his right, throwing, shoulder). But now, I'm able to throw. Feels good."

Choosing an agency doesn't get much attention from the outside. It's a key choice for a young player, however, because the guidance they are going to receive in the years ahead will play a major role in their NFL contracts.

Mariota got the decision out of the way early. Now he can focus solely on the draft.
