Richard Sherman's Girlfriend Ashley Moss Gives Birth to Son Rayden

In the end, it all worked out for Richard Sherman.

The Seattle Seahawks' star cornerback was able to play in Super Bowl XLIX versus the New England Patriots in Glendale, Arizona, without missing his son's birth. The Super Bowl—a 28-24 Pats victory—took place Sunday, and son Rayden was born Thursday.

The 26-year-old made the announcement on social media and pointed out the timing. His son arrived Feb. 5, and Sherman wears No. 25.

Peter King of The MMQB passed along the name:

There was some concern ahead of the big game that Sherman would be forced to make a tough decision. Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reported Sherman's pregnant girlfriend, Ashley Moss, was with him in Arizona, and they were just hoping the baby would wait to arrive.

Sherman spoke on what it meant to have a child entering the world: "It's someone that actually depends on you for everyday living. Everything they do is dependent on you and how you provide and how successful you are."

During the Super Bowl—which effectively ended with a Malcolm Butler interception off Russell Wilson at the goal line—Sherman finished with three tackles while fighting through an elbow injury.

In fact, he might need Tommy John surgery in the offseason, though head coach Pete Carroll said surgery isn't certain, per Brady Henderson of 710 ESPN Seattle.

Regardless, Sherman's offseason plans just got a whole lot busier after the birth of his first child.
