'NY Post' Front Page Features Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen and Deflated Ball Puns

Dan CarsonJan 22, 2015

We finally did it, guys. We've reached peak Deflategate.

Over the last four days, the NFL has seen a blizzard of hot takes and knee-jerk reactions from fans and the sports media in response to the New England Patriots' use of deflated footballs during Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

Dispersed within this storm has been a wintry mix of bad jokes and middle-school puns regarding said deflated footballs. Naturally, the competition between newspapers racing to the bottom of the ball-joke barrel has been stiff, but it's fair to say the New York Post has won handily with the front page of its Thursday edition.

Following up its "NFL squeezes Patriots' balls" opus from Tuesday, the Post opted to ink Tom Brady, his wife, Gisele Bundchen, and the words "What a Blow!" onto Thursday's paper.

CBS Sports' Will Brinson tweeted a picture of the layout. Drink it in while you can, because this is it—the climax of the never-ending shovel fight between New York and Boston newspapers.

It's hard to see how the Post one-ups itself after this one.

You've got multiple puns, one of which don't add up in the biological sense. There's also the inclusion of a player's wife who is in no way involved with the matter at hand. It all adds up to a strong work in the same way a double wet willy is stronger than a single.

Of course, more dirty bombs will be lobbed back and forth between New York and Boston in the coming week, but none will touch this. The limbo stick for nonsensical schadenfreude has been set. Good luck ducking under that, Daily News.
