Daniels Reportedly Will Sign with Broncos

Tuesday, March 10

SI.com's Peter King reported that Daniels will sign with Denver.

On Feb. 24, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh revealed that Daniels "has indicated he wants to return next season," per the team's Twitter account.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun added, "Harbaugh said that he's spoken to Owen Daniels and the veteran tight end is 'very interested' in returning to Baltimore."

Daniels spent the first eight years of his career with the Houston Texans. He was always a reliable option in the passing game but was never considered among the league's best. A broken leg limited him to just five games in his final season with the team.

Between the serious injury and the fact that he was entering what's usually considered the back end of an NFL career at age 32, expectations were mixed when he joined the Ravens.

He responded by catching 48 passes for 527 yards and four touchdowns.

While not elite numbers, they helped bring some stability to the Baltimore offense. He ranked third on the team in both receptions and receiving yards.

After the season, he told Garrett Downing of the Ravens' official site that he definitely wanted to continue playing and hoped it would be with Baltimore.

"I think I got a couple more [years] in me, at least. I finished out the year as strong as I could. At my age, that's not easy to do," he said. "But they did a great job taking care of me throughout the season. I train my butt off during the offseason, so I'll be ready to go and hopefully I'll be back."

Longtime NFL offensive lineman Eric Winston believes Daniels still has enough left in the tank after people started to write him off:

What Daniels produced for the Ravens is probably his peak at this stage of his career—around 50 catches while playing a complementary role in the passing game behind a team's top targets. He's a nice weapon to have on third down and in the red zone.

With the Ravens, he showed what type of asset he can still be when healthy, and the importance of tight ends isn't lost on front offices around the league given the matchup problems they can create.

He'll make an impact with Denver during the 2015 campaign.
