Jim Harbaugh Reportedly Smeared Player's Blood on Face as War Paint at Stanford
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh will do a lot to prove his dedication to his players, even if it makes him seem a bit crazy.
During his first year as the head coach at Stanford (2007), Harbaugh reportedly told his players before a game that if any of them bled during the contest, he wanted it on him, as he wanted so badly to play in the game with them. They didn't buy it, but he was dead serious.
Max Cohen ofย The Michigan Dailyย provided a retelling of the incident, including the moment when Harbaugh took it up a notch:
"But in the game, right tackle Chris Marinelli ran off the field with the rest of his offense after a touchdown drive, his arm bloodied. He went straight to Harbaugh to show him.ย Harbaugh looked at the blood and did exactly what he said he would. He took his hand and wiped it on Marinelliโs arm. The playerโs blood was on the coachโs hands.
Then, Harbaugh took it a step further. He smeared Marinelliโs blood all over his own face like war paint.
โ(Harbaugh is) standing on the sideline with the offensive line, really jacked up, screaming, yelling, jumping around with blood smeared on his face,โ said Chase Beeler, one of the teamโs offensive linemen.
"
It's a shame there are no pictures or videos of the incident, but if any do show up, we'll be sure to provide an update.
