Frank Gore, Alfonso Smith Post-Week 16 Fantasy Reaction

Joseph ZuckerDec 20, 2014

Plenty of fantasy owners across the country rejoiced as Frank Gore pinballed his way into the end zone in the first quarter on Saturday night against the San Diego Chargers.

The San Francisco 49ers' running back broke multiple tackles en route to a 52-yard touchdown run, as the Niners took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. He finished the quarter with 98 yards on seven carries.

Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego highlighted how impressive those numbers are in context:

Gore, however, tailed off as the game unfolded.

Most fantasy leagues will wrap up with the close of Week 16. For those owners who still need to plan for Week 17, Gore is worth starting as a flex. His ceiling is a bit limited, in that he's unlikely to have another monster game. But that shouldn't prevent him from putting up respectable numbers.

San Francisco shared the wealth in the backfield, inserting a few different backs into the running game. One such back is Alfonso Smith.

You can all but ignore Smith for next week. Barring injury, there's no way he'll get enough touches to produce anything noteworthy.
