Julio Jones Records Career High in Receiving Yards for 2nd Straight Week

Bleacher Report MilestonesDec 9, 2014

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones caught 11 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 43-37 loss to the Green Bay Packers, setting a career-high mark in receiving yards for a second straight week, per Around The NFL on Twitter.

After roasting the Arizona Cardinals for 10 catches, 189 receiving yards and a touchdown in a Week 14 victory, Jones somehow outdid himself on a cold night at Lambeau Field.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide star was one of the few bright spots for Atlanta in the first half, catching five passes for 100 yards, even as his team found itself in a 31-7 hole at the break.

Jones did his best to erase that deficit after halftime, starting with a 79-yard reception that fell just one yard shy of the end zone on the first play of the second half.

The huge play sparked an unexpected rally, and the Falcons made it a 34-24 game when Jones caught a 22-yard touchdown pass with 12 minutes and 33 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, Jones suffered a hip injury later in the fourth quarter, rendering him unable to play for the game's final seven minutes.

The superstar wideout thus missed a chance to crack 300 receiving yards, which Pro-Football-Reference.com indicates has only been done five times in NFL history.

Flipper Anderson owns the single-game record of 336 receiving yards as a member of the 1989 Los Angeles Rams.

Jones' performance on Monday was good for 18th on the all-time list and marked the 26th occurrence of a player posting 250 or more receiving yards in a game.
