Didi Gregorius to Yankees: Latest Trade Details, Reaction and Analysis
The New York Yankees have acquired shortstop Didi Gregorius, who they will hope fills the void left by the retirement of Derek Jeter. The former Arizona Diamondback arrives as part of a three-team deal that also includes the Detroit Tigers.

Gregorius started his career with the Cincinnati Reds before spending the past two seasons with the Diamondbacks. The 24-year-old infielder is still in the development process, as illustrated by his .226 average and sub-.300 on-base percentage last season. He's flashed some upside (.332 OBP in 2013), however, and is a solid defender.

At the very least, in the field, he should be a suitable replacement for Jeter, whose contributions faded in that area in his latter years. The Yankees just have to hope the hitting side of things comes along over time.

In return, New York sends starting pitcher Shane Greene to the Tigers. He enjoyed a nice debut campaign that saw him post a 3.78 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 78.2 innings over 15 games (14 starts). There's a good chance he slides into the back of Detroit's rotation.
As for the Diamondbacks, they get a couple pieces for the future in Robbie Ray and middle infielder Domingo Leyba.

All told, the main focus will undoubtedly be Gregorius. Moving to the bright lights of New York to take the role filled by a team legend is a serious test for the young player from the Netherlands.
