Jeffery said his hamstring is "a lot better than last week," per Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Jeffery Denies Contract Status Affected Availability
Prior to his injury, Jeffery appeared rather limited in the regular-season opener, despite hauling in five receptions for 78 yards.
After practice on Sept. 9, Jeffery denied his contract status was impacting his decision to play, per Jahns. Jeffery is slated to make $1,447,036 this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason, according to Spotrac.
When the Bears traded Brandon Marshall in the offseason, Jeffery became a more prominent part of the offense.
His burden was supposed to be eased after the team drafted Kevin White with the seventh overall pick, but with White potentially out for the season after undergoing surgery on a stress fracture in his shin, the former South Carolina star is clearly the main option for quarterbacks Jay Cutler and Jimmy Clausen.
Jeffery did miss time in his first season with hand and knee injuries, appearing in 10 games as a rookie in 2012, but he has appeared in all 32 games over the past two years and compiled more than 1,000 yards in each season.
The Bears underwent major changes in the offseason—starting with the hiring of head coach John Fox, who hopes to start building a new defense. There's no denying that offense is still the strength of this team, and it's led by Jeffery's dynamic ability to make plays in traffic downfield.
