Halsey spent three years in the majors after the Yankees drafted him in the eighth round of the 2002 draft. He was famously part of the 2005 trade that sent future Hall of Famer Randy Johnson to the Bronx from Arizona.

The Houston native posted career numbers of 14-19 with a 4.84 ERA and 160 strikeouts in just over 286 innings.

Many offered their condolences on social media, including Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, who covered Halsey with the A's in 2006:

Halsey was outside the public eye once his MLB career ended after the 2006 campaign. He spent time in Oakland's farm system in 2007 and later resurfaced as a Yankees farmhand once again in 2011 before ultimately stepping away.
