Lacy Dealing With Hip Injury After Falcons Game
Tuesday, Dec. 9
Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy is dealing with a hip injury in the aftermath of Monday's 43-37 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel provided coach Mike McCarthy's thoughts on the injury:
Lacy suffered a concussion against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, which was his second since entering the league. He had 12 carries for 34 yards in a 36-16 loss.
Lacy didn't miss any time, coming back to rush for 43 yards on 13 carries in a 31-24 win over the New York Jets.
The 24-year-old has a deliberate running style, which can be a bit of a concern given how short the shelf life of an NFL running back is.
Lacy admitted that something might need to change with the way he carries the ball but said radically altering his style is nearly impossible, per Packers.com (h/t AL.com's Mark Inabinett):
"I think I might change it somehow. I have to figure out a way to change the way I run but still keep the physical part of it. It's not really something I'm trying to change as of now. I guess as I get older, I'll figure out how it goes.
I can only be myself. I was drafted here because of the way I run, so that's just what I have to do. But just trying to alter it, make sure I'm still physical, but, I guess, try to keep the concussions out of it somehow. I'll figure that out along the way. But I'm definitely going to still run the way that I run.
"
With this hip injury, the need for an adjustment becomes even more acute. Lacy doesn't need to completely overhaul the way he plays, but some subtle tweaks may become necessary.
