The Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Week Fifteen
I haven't done one of these since May 16 so with the short fantasy week starting tomorrow, it seemed as good a time as any to restart it.
Add Them Now
Rafael Soriano, Closer, Atlanta Braves
For the season Soriano has 12 saves, 58 strikeouts, a 1.48 ERA and an impressive 0.89 WHIP. Those stats don't really jump out at you, but what if I told you more than one-half of his 12 saves and almost one-half of his strikeouts came in the last month. On top of that, the veteran reliever has a 1.38 ERA and 0.62 WHIP.
Franklin Gutierrez, OF, Seattle Mariners
Gutierrez has been on fire since June 16, hitting .395 with seven home runs. The best part is that as of today he's on a 12 game hit streak. So far during the streak, the ex-Cleveland Indian is hitting .479 with three home runs.
Drop Them Now
Jay Bruce, OF, Cincinnati Reds
Bruce recently broke his wrist, which will take about six to eight weeks to completely heal. He was hitting .207 before the injury so don't worry about dropping him.
Sean West, SP, Florida Marlins
After recording seven strikeouts against the Yankees, West has gone downhill quickly. In three starts, he's equaled the seven K's he had against the Yanks and lasted on 4 2/3 innings in his last start against Arizona. Following the game, Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said West was going to be sent to the minors, which erased any value he had.
Monitor Their Status
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh Pirates
Yeah, I know he's a good catcher and fantasy player, but he's only played three games since April 19. So, personally I'd like to see some more before I pick him up.
Pedro Martinez, SP, Philadelphia Phillies
Martinez signed today with the Philadelphia Phillies and was immediately placed on the DL. Watch him because the Phillies obviously expect him to make an impact.
