Experts Have Varied Opinions on Winston's Shoulder Injury; QB 'Feels Good'

Sunday, Feb. 22

Doug Kyed of NESN provided a scout's take on Winston's shoulder issues:

However, Josina Anderson of ESPN contradicted that report, noting that a source from a team with a top 10 pick wasn't concerned by the issue.

Albert Breer of NFL.com reported that the the Dallas Cowboys' doctor put in the request for the exam and that the condition in Winston's shoulder is common among pitchers and is nothing beyond standard wear and tear.

David J. Chao, MD of National Football Post indicated he didn't believe Winston's draft stock should be impacted by the "minor weakness discovered" in the quarterback's shoulder.

As for Winston himself, the quarterback told reporters "I feel good," and blamed the medical exams for the soreness in his shoulder, according to NFL.com's College football Twitter feed

Winston Experiences Weakness in Shoulder

Mortensen added: "Sources said Winston had an Electromyography (EMG) to study a weakness in his shoulder, which often can be caused by a nerve problem that can be treated through proper therapy, if necessary."

However, Breer indicated that Winston's shoulder seems fine:

Winston also seemed to ease concerns at his press conference Friday, noting he still plans to throw at the combine:

Winston's camp added a response as well, per Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported more from Winston's agent, Greg Genske:

Rapoport reported that the injury is common among pitchers and that it checked out fine at the hospital.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports added his take:

While the severity of his injury is unknown at this time, NFL scouts will obviously be waiting on bated breath for a prognosis. With Winston being considered by many to be the favorite to go No. 1 overall, this could have a major impact on how the draft shakes out.

The second freshman to ever win the Heisman Trophy in 2013, Winston's 2014 campaign was filled with ups and downs. After Winston led the Seminoles to the College Football Playoff semifinal, Marcus Mariota (who is in direct competition with Winston for that No. 1 draft pick) and the Oregon Ducks handled Florida State with ease.
