NFL Rookie Minicamps: Johnny Manziel Is the Eye of His Own Hurricane

The hype engulfing Johnny Manziel and the Cleveland Browns is booming locally and nationally. In a city infamous for struggling in professional sports, the shifty rookie re-energized the Dawg Pound. His uncanny, unorthodox football style matches his powerful personality. Accompanied by Drake, Manziel is iconic in modern culture at the ripe age of 21.

But here we sit, we watch and we listen for any information available about the polarizing Heisman Trophy winner. Per Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post, the Browns shut down national media during their rookie minicamp. Hubbuch explains that the historic franchise wants to maintain a "tight grip" on the former Texas A&M Aggie.

Manziel's football development is bubble-wrapped by a certain calmness that we have never seen. The somewhat eerie silence prevails while outer winds roar boisterously. Keep in mind that Manziel's spread offense background fuels a need for proper practice and learning as he transitions into the hard-hitting league, and media intervention is a major distraction.

Manziel's unique situation on and off the field contributes to the mysterious scene off of Lake Erie. His jerseys are flying off shelves, but at the moment, he is slated to merely hold a clipboard.

This is the scary part. If the Browns kick off the 2014 season in moderately subpar fashion, Manziel—seemingly backed by millions—will be thrusted on to the field, regardless of his football development. And Cleveland is certainly hoping to not stunt his growth on the gridiron.

Unless Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer, the current go-to signal-caller, plays and wins consistently, the "Man-ziel, Man-ziel" chants will jolt FirstEnergy Stadium. The hype generated from the fans forces Cleveland's front office and coaching staff into a situation that we will monitor like vultures.

And for Manziel and the Browns, they have to remain quieter than a mouse. In a world dominated by smart phones and social media, the current inner calmness could burst.
