Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

  • Shows strong kicking mechanics which leads to consistent accuracy on extra points and short-yardage field goals; missed just three extra points and one field goal under 40 yards in his college career.
  • Has some experience kicking in poor weather conditions during his time at Penn State and as a high schooler in Pennsylvania.
  • Showed improvement in leg strength late in career, and made six of eight field-goal attempts beyond 40 yards as a senior.
  • Also handled the full-time punting duties during his two years at Penn State and as a senior at Texas.

Negatives

  • Limited leg strength; set career long with a 50-yard field goal in 2013.
  • Did not attempt a single kickoff during his two years at Texas and showed limited leg strength during his years at Penn State.
  • Missed time with a groin injury in 2012 and only attempted four field goals.

Personal Notes

  • Transferred from Penn State following the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
  • Lou Groza Award finalist in 2013.
  • First-team All-Big 12 as a senior.
  • Set school record with 15 consecutive field goals made in 2013.

Overall

Anthony Fera doesn't have the leg strength, at least at this stage of his career, to draw much attention from the NFL. His lack of experience and limited production as a kickoff specialist further hurts his case for sticking with a team in 2014. However, he is as steady as they come on short and intermediate kicks.

Leg strength on kickoffs and field goals is something that can be developed; another former Longhorn kicker, Phil Dawson, is a great example. As a result, Fera may be a guy who pops up again down the road even if he doesn't make an immediate impact in the league.
