Updates from Wednesday, Jan. 1

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports has a major update on Tampa Bay's coaching vacancy:

The Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith to be their new head coach, two sides are finalizing the contract tonight

— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) January 2, 2014

Perfect hire for Bucs after what they just went through, Lovie is a grown up, no drama guy who will bring old Bucs tradition back.

Lovie quietly interviewed w Bucs this week and team moved quickly to make him their guy. Still working out contract details

Adam Schefter of ESPN had more on the negotiations between the two sides and Smith's salary in Tampa Bay:

Smith met with the Glazier family Tuesday and was offered the job, according to sources. Talks for a contract extended until Wednesday when a deal was reached in the evening.

Terms of the contract weren't known, but sources said Smith is expected to make in excess of $5 million a year.

According to multiple sources, Smith will bring in former Cal coach Jeff Tedford to be his offensive coordinator.

As far as the makeup of Smith's staff goes, Ben Goessling and Pat Yasinskas of ESPN had details there:

Lovie Smith in Tampa could be a quick landing spot for Leslie Frazier, who could wind up as #Buccaneers' defensive coordinator.

Hearing that Rod Marinelli, not Leslie Frazier, will be Lovie Smith's DC.
