Richmond Restaurant Honors Robert Griffin III with Gigantic RG3 Burger

Gabe ZaldivarJun 8, 2018

A Richmond, Va., restaurant was grappling with how to properly utilize the Washington Redskins training camp for its place of business. Brilliance struck when someone at Metro Grill decided to stick a whole cow in between some buns and call the monstrosity the "RG3 Burger."

I'll take one to go, please.ย

The burger has slowly gained nationwide notoriety. When you see it, you will understand why. Here is a picture of the burger via a tweet from Metro Grill's general managerย Kevin Mandeville.ย

Let's zoom in just a bit.ย

And the reaction: ย

This single photo was nearly enough for me to hop on a plane to get my hands on this mountain of beef. Inย the name of research, of course.ย

Unfortunately, Sarah Kogod of The Washington Post already delivered the answers we need on this tribute to Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III:

"

Metro Grill, a bar and restaurant in the cityโ€™s Fan District, is offering a tower of meat and cheese theyโ€™re calling the โ€œRG3 Burger.โ€ The monster on bread consists of three patties made with a blend of wagyu beef and bacon fat, three cheeses (goat cheese, gorgonzola and gouda), three condiments (whole-grain mustard, sriracha mayo and roasted garlic spread), lettuce, tomato and bacon on an onion roll.ย

"

I have never been so mad to be so far away from the Richmond area, and I'm a little peeved to not have any wagyu beef or bacon fat on hand to try my luck at burger-building.ย

Mandeville explained to Kogod the impetus behind a dish that isn't so much eaten as it isย conquered:

"

We were sitting around one afternoon last week and we were thinking about the best way to market something specific to the Redskins facility since theyโ€™re in town. It kind of came together pretty easily between myself and my head chef. The roasted garlic is the โ€˜RGโ€™ and the โ€˜3โ€™ was the three cheeses.

"

As for the vitals: The RG3 Burger comes in at a whopping 14 ounces and will demand you part with $12, along with a little bit of your dignity.ย

Some of us were never good at catching a football, or throwing one for that matter. Wind sprints, two-a-days and training camp might give us an uneasy feeling.ย

However, specials like this make sense. Richmond denizens with similar appetitesโ€”you now have a football-related challenge worth tackling.ย

This is your Super Bowl. Go out there and dominate, but be sure to report back here after your food coma.ย
