Matt Kemp to Donate $1000 Per Home Run to Victims of Oklahoma Tornadoes

Matt Kemp's home run on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers helped the Los Angeles Dodgers emerge victorious, but it will also help Oklahoma City.

Matt Kemp has upped the ante on his pledge to help those impacted by the tragedy in Oklahoma. Through a statement on the website of the Chris Singleton Foundation, Kemp will donate an additional $250,000 to his pledge of $1,000 per home run.

Kemp announced after the game via his Twitter account:

At least 51 people were killed when a tornado struck the small town of Moore, Okla., just south of Oklahoma City on Monday, according to CNN.com. At least 145 people have been hospitalized, per the report.

The Midwest City, Okla., native was a star in both baseball and basketball at Midwest City High School.

This is not the first time that Kemp has done something for the community. He's been actively involved in several children's charities throughout his career. His website, TheRealMattKemp.com, aims to allow fans to communicate with him on a personal level.

He recently gave a terminally ill Dodgers fan a signed baseball, his hat, jersey and cleats after a game against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. He did this without realizing it was being filmed, and the video has since gone viral.

It's nice to know there are people out there like Kemp in the wake of such tragedies. He gets it. When so many superstars lose touch with reality, he doesn't. In times like these, baseball is just a game, and Kemp understands that.

Now, when one of Kemp's hits soars out of the ballpark in the coming months, we will know where it's headed...Oklahoma City.
