Japan Advances in the WBC, Joba Chamberlain Hearing Is Rescheduled

Bronx Baseball DailyMar 19, 2009

Japan broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth, rallying for three runs and clinching a 6-2 victory over Korea.

Korea will play Venezuela on Saturday in the first round of the semifinals.

Japan will play the United States on Sunday in what lines up to be a Jake Peavy-Daisuke Matsuzaka battle that promises to be an instant classic.

I was hoping for a Korea win so that Japan and the U.S. might face each other on Monday in the finals, but this pitching matchup promises greatness.

The United States are a bit banged up, with Kevin Youkilis out and Adam Dunn a poor option, so they will likely turn to Derrek Lee to play first base.

Chipper Jones has suffered an oblique injury and will be replaced by Evan Longoria, as if that’s not an upgrade.

David Wright also has a cracked toenail after fouling a ball off his foot and Dustin Pedroia injured his oblique.

I still have the line as even and I really don’t even have a prediction. But If you force me, I’m going to go with my heart and call it 4-2 USA and 6-1 Korea over Venezuela.

Joba Chamberlain got another continuance on his DUI arraignment. This is the third time it has been rescheduled. The new date is set for March 31.

Joba was pulled over in Nebraska on Oct. 18 with a blood alcohol level of .134. The legal limit in Nebraska is .08.
