Fantasy Football: 5 Players off the Waiver Wire Who Will Save Your Season

0 of 5

In what has been a spectacular NFL season to date, with a few disappointments and complete surprises, the fantasy football year has been quite unpredictable.

Many may have found it extremely difficult to add effective free agents and know which players to start at the appropriate times.  However, if you look at the patterns of a player and his team, it can be much easier.

When adding free agents, be sure to check the players' weekly stats, fantasy points, injury report and the defense of opposing teams.

But sometimes it can be a little deeper than that, such as in the case of Justin Blackmon.

Blackmon has virtually been a fantasy dud this season. That is until Week 11 against the Houston Texans when he recorded 29.60 Yahoo! fantasy points.  Either way, whether you like to do the research yourself or be guided into the right direction, I am here to make your decisions a lot easier by presenting only the very best players available on the waiver wire.

WR Brandon Gibson: St. Louis Rams

1 of 5

Although the St. Louis Rams are having a very poor season, wide receiver Brandon Gibson has grown into a consistent offensive threat.

Last week against the New York Jets, Gibson scored two touchdowns and recorded 12.90 Yahoo! fantasy points.  If Gibson can continue to find the end zone, then his fantasy contribution and value will only increase.

There have been quite a few games this season in which Gibson and quarterback Sam Bradford have had great chemistry.

Bradford needs to realize that other than RB Steven Jackson, and maybe WR Danny Amendola, Gibson is the next most valuable threat.  If Gibson and Bradford can get on the same page once again, then this will be a great add.  Semi-high risk, but with very high reward.

Week 12 Opponent: at Arizona Cardinals (4-6)

RB LaRod Stephens-Howling: Arizona Cardinals

2 of 5

LaRod Stephens-Howling has been absolutely outstanding in three of the last four games.

He recorded 20.90 Yahoo! fantasy points in Minnesota for Week 7 and 11.90 in Week 9 at Green Bay, and his Week 11 performance versus the Falcons earned his fantasy owners 19.30 points.  Stephens-Howling has been very impressive this season despite the current five-game losing streak that the Arizona Cardinals are experiencing.

This week against the St. Louis Rams, you can expect Stephens-Howling to have at least a 10-point fantasy performance.  He will continue where he left off last week against the Falcons, where he rushed the football 22 times for 127 yards and one touchdown.  After scoring three touchdowns in his last four outings, LaRod Stephens-Howling is a must-add and a must-start.

Week 12 Opponent: vs. St. Louis Rams (3-6-1)

TE Benjamin Watson, Cleveland Browns

3 of 5

Benjamin Watson may be one of the most underrated tight ends in the National Football League.  He hasn't been extraordinary this season, but he's been effective in key moments and will only improve as the season progresses.

Last week in Dallas, Watson was a nightmare for the Cowboys, making four receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns.  That performance earned him 16.70 Yahoo! fantasy points for Week 11.

Against the gritty Pittsburgh Steelers defense in Week 12, the services of Watson will be needed greatly.  If in need of a tight end, Benjamin Watson will make a solid addition to your current roster.  Only owned by one percent of fantasy owners, Watson should be available in basically every league.  Get him while you can because with another big performance this week, Benjamin Watson will not be on the waiver wire for much longer.

Week 12 Opponent: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4)

WR Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville Jaguars

4 of 5

Justin Blackmon has been a real disappointment in his rookie season.  However, last week against the Houston Texans Blackmon exhibited how talented and valuable he really can be.  Recording 29.60 Yahoo! fantasy points, Blackmon was one of the most productive players throughout the entire NFL in Week 11.  With seven receptions for 236 yards and one touchdown, Blackmon had a performance that he will only hope to duplicate in the future.

Well, with the Tennessee Titans on the schedule for week 12, Blackmon has a great chance to be a top performer once again.  Not only do the Titans have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, but they also have one of the weakest overall defenses throughout the league.  Allowing an average of 266.2 passing yards per game, the Tennessee Titans have the 26th overall ranked passing defense.

QB Blaine Gabbert has been listed on the IR, which means that Chad Henne will take the field in Week 12, which actually benefits Blackmon tremendously.  Blackmon hasn't done much this season with Gabbert under center, so look for the rookie out of Oklahoma State to continue to build chemistry with quarterback Chad Henne.  If you are currently looking for a receiver, Justin Blackmon should be your very first choice if he is still available.

    Thank me later.

RB Marcel Reece: Oakland Raiders

5 of 5

With Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson currently battling injuries, Marcel Reece looks like a safe add and a safe start.  Even if McFadden or Goodson were to play, Reece should still see a fair amount of carries with his incredible productivity of late.

In the past three weeks Marcel Reece has recorded a total of 45.20 Yahoo! fantasy points against the Buccaneers, Ravens and Saints.  Reece has proven that he can be a threat both on the ground and on the receiving end.

The Cincinnati Bengals are next on the schedule of Reece and the Raiders.  The Bengals have a pretty solid defense; however, I expect Reece to have a dominating outing in Ohio to snap Oakland's three-game losing streak.

Marcel Reece is available in most ESPN fantasy leagues, but he is currently owned in 71 percent of Yahoo! fantasy teams.  If you are fortunate enough to add Reece, do so immediately.
