Lions' RB Kevin Smith Holds Zero Value for Fantasy Owners

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Detroit Lions' running back Kevin Smith will likely be one of the most waived players in fantasy leagues for Week 4.

Smith, who was owned in 90.6 percent of NFL.com's fantasy leagues going into Sunday, did not get a single touch in the Lions' 44-41 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

This left many a fantasy owner frustrated and hurting as there was no prior indication that Smith was not going to see any action. This tweeter expresses what many fantasy owners have to be thinking.

I still can't believe Kevin Smith didn't even see the field today - that's got me in a bind on the #Fantasy matchup

Owners like the above, are undoubtedly already in the process of putting Smith on waivers, and there should be no rush to pick him up.

Mikel Leshoure got the start for the Lions and looked solid with 26 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Leshoure is obviously in much better standing with the coaches than Williams at this point, and there is no reason to think that Smith will be given any carries at Leshoure's expense.

This is not the only piece of evidence we have pointing towards the fantasy demise of Smith. The lightly-used Joique Bell picked up five carries in this game.

I'm not sure what Smith did to get in the coach's doghouse, but it was something. Don't hold a roster spot for Smith while you hope he emerges from his poochie palace.

Let us not forget the Lions also have RB Jahvid Best set to come off the PUP list following Week 6, and Best had previously said he expects to be ready to play when he does return. If healthy, Best will eat up a big chunk of the running back touches.

This is a crowded backfield, and Smith appears to be at the back of that crowd—fantasy owners need to stay away.
