Tampa Bay Ray's Elliot Johnson Plays Catch with Fans After Checking Twitter

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

If you are a grown man, never bring a baseball glove to an MLB game. Unless, of course, you are planning on inviting a major league player out to the parking lot for a catch.

That's right. One lucky fan played out the last scene of Field of Dreams with Elliot Johnson playing the part of John Kinsella.

Big Lead Sports reports the shortstop spotted an invite to play catch from fans kicking it in the parking lot before a game, and decided to surprise them with his presence.

Here is an email one of the fans sent to the website to explain the chance meeting.

"

Prior to the Rays game last night, I was with a few buddies tailgating in the parking lot. Out of the blue I posted a tweet to Elliot Johnson that I was in the lot, and to come out and play catch. He comes out into the lot, in full game gear minus the jersey (with a glove and a ball) and plays catch with us. Additionally after the game we were behind the dugout, Elliot spots us and tosses us a few game balls. What a great experience, Elliot couldn’t have been a nicer guy.

Bro swoon.

If we were to construct a hall of fame for awesome moments of athletes going above and beyond for fans, this would be in the inaugural class.

The funny part is that the fans didn't actually have a glove. They went fishing to see if they could pull off the impossible, never thinking a ball player would just go, "what the hell?"

Johnson tweeted this back to the fans after they posted a video of the grand game of catch.

"

Next time let me know to bring you a glove! RT @chrisbelltb: twitvid.com/C57LE - Playing catch with @elliotjohnson9 @bucball09

All hail, Johnson.

The man may have only featured in one at-bat in the game against the Boston Red Sox, but he managed to make that day unforgettable for some Rays fans.

There is no other way to put it. That's just awesome.
