Inching closer to opening night, I wanted to discuss a couple star receivers who are coming off of foot ailments.
A few weeks ago Hakeem Nicks was activated from the PUP list and it appeared he was ready to go for week one, but in recent days Nicks has had to shut it down and rest. This doesn’t mean he will be inactive against the Cowboys, but we need to keep an eye on his game-time status.
Having Nicks on the field is crucial for the Giants, but fantasy owners might want to consider benching him this week, if they have someone they feel good about on the bench.
Full Practice For Steve Smith
It was hard to know what to make of Smith’s foot injury a week ago, but the bottom line for fantasy is we needed to see him back at practice to feel good about his odds of playing against the Buccaneers.
So far, so good as Smith put in a full practice with a week to go before the opener and unless he has a setback we should have in the lineup.
I like Greg Olsen to develop as an short to intermediate option for Cam Newton, and Brandon LaFell will help out, but this passing game won’t be the same without Smith to stretch the field. Still one of the more dangerous weapons in the game, Smith will have another WR2 performance in 2012.
