Joe Girardi Calls Off Workout, Yankees Players Bond over Billiards, Other News

Joe Girardi called off Monday’s workout. Realizing that camp would be longer this year, Girardi decided to give the team a break and brought the whole team to a pool hall to build up some team chemistry. 

I thought this was a great idea. Team chemistry is a very important thing, because players should know their teammates and get along with them. The coaches played in a separate tournament from the players.

According to Peter Abraham, the pool shark of the group was Mariano Rivera. He won both of the eight-ball tournaments. His partners were Phil Coke and Andy Pettitte. This kind of makes sense, as Mo probably brings the same stuff to the pool hall as he does on the mound. Mariano and Andy beat the duo of Swisher and Matsui in the finals.

Tomorrow, the team will go back to work and follow their usual routine. It will be a full workout preparing them for the exhibition game on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
