Cashman Not Confident A-Rod Clean As A Yankee

So far the Yankees have done a good job playing the role of loyal wife with the cheating husband.

Alex Rodriguez was outed as A-Roid and they didn’t immediately freak out. Then A-Rod admitted to using steroids from 2001-2003 and still they did not run to void his deal.

With nearly $300 million on the table over the next nine years, the Yankees have done and said all the right things to keep their star player happy.

But when Brian Cashman was asked by reporters if he believed A-Rod had been clean since joining New York Cashman didn’t exactly endorse the disgraced slugger.

“I can tell you, from ’04 on we’ve had testing procedures in place and that’s the best that I can go off of,” Cashman said. “But I’m not here to represent that I’m confident about anything on anybody. I think we’ve lived through a tough, tough stretch that shattered that confidence level.

“If you asked me that question five years ago, I’d be giving you a different answer. But I’ve been educated quite a bit, unfortunately, over the course of time. I won’t make the same mistakes I’ve made in the past. I’m not confident about anything in the past any more.”

It seems like Cashman has got the same attitude that I have adopted recently. I feel like I’ve been lied to over and over again. At this point I don’t know what to believe and I’m certainly not taking someone who went on 60 minutes and lied point-blank in front of a national audience at his word.

At this point I’m not even sure anyone is clean. Mark Teixeira came up with the same Texas Rangers A-Rod became A-Roid with. Who’s to say he’s going to keep his image clean over the next  eight years?

Hell, I don’t even know about Derek Jeter anymore. Every time a teammate of his is outed I start asking why he seems to be supporting everyone. If he is indeed clean, how can he not be as upset as the rest of the fans of baseball are?
