Liverpool: Remembering the 2011-12 EPL Season (Game 14/38)

Liverpool traveled to Craven Cottage only to find themselves down a man and down a goal against Fulham.

The loss put them in seventh place, a position that will become all-too familiar with the club this season.

The game started off with two sides in a deadlock. Although Liverpool created many chances, they were unable to capitalize on them and displayed some awful finishing. 

Jay Spearing was brought up into the starting XI for Liverpool as they lost Lucas to a season-ending injury. Lucas' absence from the team was missed as the inexperienced Spearing found himself shown the red card after a late tackle of Moussa Dembélé.

The loss of a man in midfield was quickly exploited by Fulham—although Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish attempted to patch up the hole by substituting Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy for Stewart Downing and Dirk Kuyt. 

However, chances were again squandered as Downing saw his shot thunder off the crossbar. American Clint Dempsey sealed the win for Fulham with a simple tap-in goal from a Danny Murphy shot from long range.
