Justin Blackmon: 4 Reasons Star Receiver Will Win the Rookie of the Year

Riley KontekJun 7, 2018

The NFL draft is this week, meaning the stars of college football will soon become rich men. The draft is one of my favorite events of the year, as it brings shock, disappointment and joy to fans of every team.

Justin Blackmon appears to be the No.1 receiver in this year's NFL draft class and for good reason. Blackmon has dominated college football during his impressive career at Oklahoma State.

He's a game changer and a top candidate for the NFL Rookie of the Year Award.

Can Handle the Pressure

1 of 4

Justin Blackmon can perform under the bright lights, and it will allow him to shine in his rookie campaign this season. This was showcased by his performance in the 2012 Fiesta Bowl.

Blackmon was easily the best offensive weapon in the game, hauling in eight passes for 186 yards. Even more impressive than that, Blackmon brought three of those eight catches into the end zone, which eventually helped secure the bowl victory for Oklahoma State.

If Blackmon can continue to perform under the bright lights, he will be a lock for the Rookie of the Year.

Style

Justin Blackmon is a big, physical receiver who has drawn many comparisons to Anquan Boldin. Although I cannot disagree with these statements, Blackmon has somewhat reminded me of Terrell Owens (player-wise, not personality).

Blackmon is 6'1", 215 lbs. of muscle, power and athleticism. He has the ability to shed tackles and earn the much coveted "yards after catch" that receivers yearn.

In addition to being able to break tackles, Blackmon has the quicks to be a deep threat as well. It is no doubt that he is the best receiver in this draft, something he will prove during the season.

Quarterback Falters

Although Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are touted as the top two players in the draft, they are going to struggle in their first seasons. Luck is playing with a Colts team that could barely muster together wins last year, which was the fault of both the defense and the offense.

Griffin on the other hand, will probably end up with the Redskins, who are going to rely too heavily on RGIII's legs as their running game was less than stellar last year.

Both Luck and Griffin will be stars in the NFL, but will not beat out Blackmon for the Rookie of the Year honors.

Most NFL Ready Skill Position Player

4 of 4

Many people think that Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson are the most NFL-ready players. I believe Blackmon is more NFL-ready than any of the offensive players in the draft.

Guys like Luck, Griffin and Richardson are going to have solid rookie years and enjoy great NFL careers, but Blackmon has all the intangibles to be a Pro Bowler this year. That's right folks, I said that Justin Blackmon has the ability to make the Pro Bowl this year.

Look for Blackmon to have insane offensive output, given he stays healthy this season. If you thought AJ Green had a great rookie year, just wait until Blackmon crushes those numbers.
