Breaking Down New York Yankees' 1912 Throwback Uniforms
The New York Yankees will sport a look they have not worn since 1912 when they take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway on Friday, and they will look amazing.
Maybe it's the fact that the Yankees uniform is largely unchanged over their history, or it could be the classic look and old school feel, but know the Yankees are winning before the first pitch.
Here is a breakdown of the throwbacks that will be all the talk as the Red Sox celebrate 100 years at Fenway Park.
Wow Factor: 10 out of 10
The Yankees turn back the clocks to when they were the New York Highlanders. Mike Axisa of the Yes Network tells us how big of a deal this really is.
"Aside from various patches and whatnot, the Yankees have been using their current road jerseys since 1918* and their current home uniforms since 1936.
"
This is a well deserved 10 on the wow factor as the Yankees have been the epitome of consistency when it comes to their jerseys.
It's one of the reasons they are so easily recognized the world over. Taking it all the way back to 1912 is a big deal.
Design: 9 out of 10
I'm a sucker for old school sensibilities.
I love the logo up in front, and the hat is a must-own for any Yankees fan wanting to rock a great deal of swagger.
The only real qualm I have is the uniform doesn't seem to have the exact design as the originals. I would have liked to see the pull over with near complete buttons to the bottom as seen here, via Baseball Hall of Fame.
I am eager to see what socks they wear on Friday, which will really pull this whole thing together.
Overall Swag Grade: 9 out of 10
As we all know, throwbacks can be a little harsh on the eyes—ahem Steelers. However, these are just solid all the way around.
If the Yankees drop this game, it won't be from a lack of style.
These are throwbacks that I could get used to seeing a great deal more of.
Here is a photo of the 1912 Highlanders in home uniform, but it gives you an idea of the look of yesteryear.
