Madden 2013 Cover: Odds for Remaining Players to Nab Cover
Rodgers and Johnson square off in one semifinal, while Newton and Willis go head to head in the other. With the vote coming to a close, it's time to break down the odds of each remaining player to appear on the cover.
Aaron Rodgers: 2-1
The Madden 2013 cover is Aaron Rodgers' to lose. He's the most popular player in the NFL and the quarterback for the most popular team in the NFL. He's coming off a record-setting season and just took home the NFL MVP award and first team All-Pro honors. By starring in the State Farm "Discount Double Check" commercials, he has boosted his popularity nationwide.
Rodgers' only concern was a tighter than expected win in the elite eight, only edging Ray Rice by 10 percent. As the most talented and most popular player on this list, it would be a major upset for him to lose.
Cam Newton: 4-1
Cam Newton is the most widely recognized young player in the NFL. He's won an NCAA championship, been the subject of a college football scandal, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft and is the reigning Rookie of the Year.
He also returned the Panthers to respectability and has starred in numerous commercials for Under Armour.
Cam has been steamrolling through the bracket, winning by at least 40 percent each round. If anyone can upset Aaron Rodgers, it's Cam.
Calvin Johnson: 5-1
Calvin Johnson has a tough draw to take home the Madden 2013 cover. Not only would he have to knock off the clear-cut favorite, but he would also have to knock off the winner of the Cam Newton-Patrick Willis matchup.
While Megatron is an incredible football player and recognizable due to his nickname, he's never fully embraced the spotlight. He's never been one to speak out or draw attention to himself, and while that is commendable, it hurts him in this competition.
He has had a strong showing in the voting process, though, with a 25 percent win over Rob Gronkowski being his smallest margin of victory. Classy guy, incredible player—just not popular enough to knock off the Aaron Rodgers juggernaut.
Patrick Willis: 20-1
Patrick Willis is this year's Cinderella, and him winning the Madden 2013 cover would be an incredible upset.
While he is an incredible football player and the best linebacker in the game, Willis lacks the national appeal that Rodgers, Cam and Megatron have. Madden covers are almost exclusively given to offensive players, with Ray Lewis and Troy Polamalu being the only exceptions.
His matchups have been close, and unfortunately for Patrick Willis, he doesn't have the popularity to pull two massive upsets and take home the cover.
