Mikel LeShoure Scheduled to Be Arraigned for Second Marijuana Offense

Just a few hours ago, I detailed the potential impact on the Lions draft board of head coach Jim Schwartz's recent optimism about Mikel LeShoure's eventual return from a torn Achilles. Now, fresh news out of West Michigan from ESPN 96.1 could change that picture:

This brings up all kinds of questions about LeShoure. (Update: Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that this is LeShoure's second arrest in two months. This increases the chances of the league taking action in the form of a suspension.) (Update: Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports that Leshoure did not show for his arraignment and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.)

First and foremost, Schwartz said LeShoure was rehabbing at the Lions facility. That LeShoure would get into trouble basically under the Lions' watch won't play well with the team (not that it would play any better if he was doing it on his own time).

LeShoure has to now be seen as a greater suspension risk by the league, and the team could choose to suspend or otherwise punish him for his transgression.

After lumping running back in with every other position when using the word "never comfortable" to describe the Lions' depth at the position, one has to wonder if Schwartz is specifically uncomfortable at running back after this latest news on one of the team's top two players at the position.

Perhaps drafting a running back, even on the third day, would be beneficial just to send a message to LeShoure that nothing is promised to him despite being a second-round draft pick last year.
