St. Louis Rams: Monday's Rams News and Notes at Noon

Shane GrayMay 31, 2018

Welcome to Monday's St. Louis Rams "News and Notes at Noon", the one-stop rundown of the day's major Rams headlines and related information relevant to Rams Nation.

NFL Commissioner Sends Letter to Suspended St. Louis Defensive Coordinator

As reported by Peter King of si.com, Roger Goodell has sent a letter to Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (who has been suspended indefinitely due to his role in bountygate).

In the letter, Goodell reaffirms that Williams' potential NFL future will be reviewed following the 2012 campaign:

"

I will review your status at the conclusion of the 2012 season and consider whether, and if so, on what terms, you may be reinstated and again eligible to be employed in the NFL.

"

Within the letter, the commissioner leaves the door open, at least slightly, for a possible Williams returns, based on certain conditions:

"

In making this decision (whether to reinstate Williams or not), I will give considerable weight to the extent to which you cooperate with my office in any further proceedings, as well as developing and implementing programs designed to teach players and coaches -- particularly at other levels of the game -- how to play football in a way that is safe, fair, and that respects the game and those who participate in it.

I appreciate that this decision will be difficult for you. I hope you will use the opportunity to reflect on how you can return to the NFL in a way that honors the game and improves it for those who participate in it.

"

Clearly, the door for a potential Williams return was left at least slightly ajar by Goodell.

After the Williams suspension, the door was also not closed St. Louis head coach and close friend Jeff Fisher, who stated that "you know, we will cross that bridge when we come to it" in speaking about any prospective future for Williams with the Rams following this season, according to this from foxsports.com

St. Louis Rams Owner Stan Kroenke One of Three Finalists In Bidding for L.A. Dodgers

In case you missed it this weekend, Rams owner Stan Kroenke made it to the round of three in the bidding for the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to this report via nfl.com.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk shares some of his thoughts on the matter and discusses the possibility of a potential future franchise swap if Kroenke were to eventually become the winning bidder.

To be clear: if Kroenke were to land the Dodgers, he would not be in violation of the cross-ownership rules since there is not an NFL team in the L.A. market.

Even if one were to attempt to move there, there is no precedent to how that would be handled, and it is not clear how the matter would be resolved.

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch touches on this topic in today's column in stltoday.com.

Miklasz also write about the talk of a potential option to move the Rams in 2015 (if the lease situation is not resolved) and how the St. Louis Blues could gain ground versus the Rams due to some of the perceived uncertainty around the Rams' future combined with their historically miserable past seven seasons.

Free Agent Addition Kendall Langford Excited About Upcoming Challenge With Rams

New Rams defensive tackle/end Kendall Langford is ready to embrace a new challenge in St. Louis, according to a column from Nick Wagoner of stlouisrams.com

Langford, as reported in the aforementioned piece, says he is ready for the fight that comes with starting on a team that has been struggling:

"

It’s very appealing to me. That’s one of the challenges I faced when I came out and was drafted to the Dolphins. Kind of the same scenario, they were 1-15 and we came in there with the mindset (that) we need to change the culture around here.’

"

Expect Langford to start at defensive tackle and play primarily in the role of a three-technique DT.

2012 NFL Mock Draft

With the 2012 NFL Draft now exactly one month away, mock drafts are coming at an ever-increasing rate.

One of the first-round mocks recently released comes from former NFL executive Tony Softli of 101sports.com

In his mock, Softli has the favorite of Rams Nation available and grabbed by St. Louis at No. 6.

Who is that guy? You will have to check Sofli's article for that information.

As for the aforementioned choice of Rams fans at No. 6 from the poll in my March 21 article, the results are in and the choice was overwhelming.

Finally, in case you missed it yesterday, I reviewed the most recent Walter Football mock draft and offered analysis, grades and alternative suggestions here

St. Louis Free Agency: Rams Retain Fullback Brit Miller

According to a weekend article from Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams have retained fullback Brit Miller.

The 25-year-old former linebacker from the University of Illinois has successfully made the pro switch to fullback and has been solid as Steven Jackson's primary lead blocker in power sets over the past two seasons.

Top Five Fullbacks Available in 2012 NFL Draft

Speaking of fullbacks, Tony Softli has ranked his top five available fullback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Softli gives Alfred Morris of Florida Atlantic his top grade in the column at 101sports.com

Have a great day, as always, STL Rams Nation.
