Buffalo Bills Sign Mario Williams to Deal for 6 Years, $100 Million

Sigmund BloomMar 15, 2012

The biggest deal in the 2012 free agent season was done today in Buffalo. Perhaps it takes two days to get a $100 million dollar contract done. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports:

"

Mario Williams' deal in Buffalo: six years, up to $100 million, including $50 million guaranteed.

"

The Bills have Chris Kelsay and Arthur Moats to man the other end of their defensive line, so it's not impossible that they still look defensive end at No. 10, but chances are they will change their focus to exclude pass rushers from their targets. What will the fallout be?

Jacksonville is more likely to take a pass rusher at No. 7 - The Jaguars did sign a wide receiver this week, although Laurent Robinson isn't really a No. 1, so Justin Blackmon or Michael Floyd is still very prominently in play at that pick. The Jaguars were a potential suitor for Williams if he left Buffalo without a deal, so now pass rusher is squarely on their list, especially if Blackmon goes to Cleveland or St. Louis and they don't believe Floyd is worth the seventh pick.

Buffalo is perfectly set up to land OT Jonathan Martin or Riley Reiff at No. 10 - The Bills haven't made a strong play to bring back Demetrius Bell at left tackle, although it could be because they have been preoccupied with securing Williams. If Bell isn't the answer at left tackle, Stanford's Jonathan Martin likely is. Offensive tackle seems like enough of a priority that Iowa's Riley Reiff could be considered if they aren't limiting themselves to tackles that project well at left tackle.

Kansas City, Arizona and the New York Jets could all be looking at offensive tackles after the Bills pick, and their supply is very likely decreased by one before they pick.

Seattle should have one of their top pass rushers available at No. 12 - In addition to the Jaguars, the Miami Dolphins could also use a pass rusher, but both of those teams are also wide receiver poor (and the Dolphins could be looking at QB Ryan Tannehill). The Seahawks will likely only see one pass rusher sniped in front of them, if that.

The Seahawks could have their pick of taking the first pass rusher, offensive guard, or inside linebacker off the board, which are all positions of need.
