Fantasy Football: NFL Free Agent Blog
Here's my running blog of NFL free-agent signings from Wednesday...and how these changes specifically affect the scope of fantasy football:

News: WR Calvin Johnson Reportedly Inks $132M Extension with Lions
Views: Let's be clear: There was a 0.0-percent chance of the Lions breaking up the NFL's most prolific QB-WR combination, due to salary cap concerns; but this landmark deal still has the feel of an offseason coup for the NFC favorites to reach the Super Bowl in the 2013 season.
For those who have been living under a rock this decade, Johnson pulled down 96 catches for 1,681 yards and 16 TDs last season, the type of Rice-esque numbers that suggest Calvin's era of reckoning is just beginning.

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
After all, neither he nor QB Matthew Stafford (5,038 yards, 41 TDs in 2011) will receive a 'Happy 30th Birthday' cake for another three years, and NFL defensive coordinators have yet to find solutions to the indefensible Stafford-to-Johnson alley-oop passes in the end zone.
Verdict: Running backs, on the whole, make the world go 'round in standard-scoring leagues. But fantasy owners should jump at the chance to pluck Johnson in Round 1 and Stafford in Round 2.
Johnson projections: 92 catches, 1,438 yards, 15 TDs
Stafford projections: 4,891 yards passing, 38 TDs, 16 INTs
News: WR Reggie Wayne Reportedly Agrees to New Deal with Colts
Views: With all due respect to Austin Collie, I just couldn't wrap my head around the concept of QB Andrew Luck enduring a rookie campaign in Indy without a true-blue No. 1 receiver like the 33-year-old Wayne.
OK, so Reggie had his struggles last year (75 catches, 960 yards, 4 TDs) with backups Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky; but talented wideouts with excellent route-running capabilities don't just vanish off the fantasy radar.
Thinking conservatively, I envision Wayne churning out two more highly productive seasons with Luck, a potential top-20 quarterback next year. UPDATE: The Colts have reportedly traded for Eagles right tackle Winston Justice, a savvy move that'll likely influence whoever ends up as Indy's lead tailback.
Wayne projections: 89 catches, 1,202 yards, six TDs
News: The Bucs Sign WR Vincent Jackson and All-Pro Guard Carl Nicks to Big Deals
Views: The Buccaneers wasted little time in pursuing elite-level talents like Jackson (37 career TDs) and Nicks (two-time Pro Bowler).
Now, Tampa Bay fans can realistically dream of an offensive core that includes QB Josh Freeman (8,898 career passing yards), O-linemen Nicks, Donald Penn, Jeremy Trueblood and Davin Joseph, tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., wideouts Jackson, Mike Williams, Arrelious Benn, Dezmon Briscoe and running backs LeGarrette Blount and Trent Richardson, a prominent candidate for the No. 5 overall pick in the April draft.
That's a serious upgrade from last year for new head coach Greg Schiano, whose appreciation for balanced, physical offensive attacks cannot be understated when assessing Richardson's fantasy potential—should the Bucs grab him.
As for Jackson, he'll seldom see double coverages from opposing defenses (thanks to Williams and Winslow)...which bodes well for him posting numbers similar to the 2009 campaign with San Diego. At this point, Jackson will likely rate as a top-13 receiver during the preseason.
Jackson projections: 63 catches, 1,179 yards, eight TDs
