Ryan Braun won his appeal over a positive drug test, and on Friday he finally spoke out.

The reigning NL MVP has experienced the worst kind of offseason, one that has been colored by a positive drug test that revealed abnormally high testosterone.

The Milwaukee Brewers slugger has largely been silent despite rampant rumors and insinuations that he would have loved to have addressed.

He finally got that chance on Friday in a live press conference. Here are some interesting quotes from Braun, taken from Aaron Gleeman's report from NBC Sports

First off, Braun addresses the fact that he was silent simply for the respect he has for the sport and the process, despite some early leaks on the other side of things.

I tried to respect this process even though the confidentially was breached early on.

It hasn’t been easy. Lots of times I wanted to come out and tell the entire story, attack everybody like I’ve been attacked. My name was dragged through the mud. But at the end of the day I recognized what was best for the game of baseball.

We have been begging to hear from Braun, and this was essentially the reason a man that was getting pummeled stayed silent.

If I had done this intentionally or unintentionally I’d have been the first one to admit it. I truly believe this substance never entered my body.

There are now two factions of fans, those that believe Braun got off on a technicality as his urine was stored for 48 hours before being tested, and those that feel he is fully vindicated.

That being said, this statement was flat for me, largely because of the myriad of athletes who said the same thing before being found guilty.

Each one of those players had a chance to come clean and never did. Braun won his appeal, so we move on.

Never been a personal medical issue, never had an STD. Many of the erroneous stories reported by the network continue to live on, which is disappointing.

I will continue to take the high road. We won because the truth was on my side. I was a victim of a process that completely broke down and failed as it was applied to me in this case. Today’s about making sure this never happens to anyone else who plays this game.

This statement made me feel sorry for the first and only time for Braun. This is because he was forced to stay silent as some fairly ridiculous rumors floated as to why he tested positive, why he was silent and what he could have possibly have done or had.

Imagine the frustration of reading each and every rumor only to have to sit there and take it.

Remember this article is not to condone or vilify, merely to  point out the highlights.

I will continue to take the high road. We won because the truth was on my side. I was a victim of a process that completely broke down and failed as it was applied to me in this case. Today’s about making sure this never happens to anyone else who plays this game.

We spoke to biochemists and scientists, and asked them how difficult it would be for someone to taint the sample. They said, if they were motivated, it would be extremely easy.

Ultimately, as I sit here today, the system worked because I was innocent and I was able to prove my innocence.

A lengthy quote, but an important one.

Ryan Braun has been completely and utterly vindicated.

Braun later stated that he would investigate his legal options form here on out, but the main point is that he feels he has been completely and utterly vindicated in this process.

A urine sample was thrown out because of the protocol that was followed according to the ESPN report

That means the debate continues as to how this affects Braun and his image as a clean player going forward.

His statement today seemed extremely heartfelt and passionate, and was no doubt the words of a man that was dying to address these allegations.
