Alec Baldwin NFL Honors: League Should Have Found Better Host Than 30 Rock Star

Alec Baldwin will not be a good host of the first annual NFL Honors awards show. The league should have found a better host for the inaugural event.

Baldwin, currently the star of NBC's 30 Rock, will not bring the excitement and comedy that a sports award show needs.

The two-hour, Feb. 4 NBC special (9-11 p.m.) kicks off what the NFL plans to schedule as an annual event, with league players receiving honors like Associated Press Most Valuable Player of the Year, AP Coach of the Year, AP Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, AP Comeback Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Play of the Year.

While the MVP award will be the most anticipated honor given out during the event, the comedy of the host really makes the event worth watching. If the host isn't funny, fans will will just go on the Internet to see who won each award.

Baldwin is a great actor, but the NFL needs someone funnier. Ricky Gervais, who has lots of experience hosting Hollywood events, would have been perfect. He also created The Office, which in my estimation is as good as any show on television. Daniel Tosh, host of the popular Comedy Central show Tosh.0, also would have been a solid choice.

The NFL just needed a younger host who can appeal to a younger audience. 30 Rock is an overrated show and Baldwin just isn't the right fit for an NFL awards show.

The league needs a stronger personality that can relate to what's going on in football right now and knows many of the players. That's why a player/host would be a good idea too, and there's many hilarious star players who could make fantastic hosts.

Baldwin was a safe choice by the NFL because he is well known among fans of comedy, but next season the league must make a better choice for the host and find a person whose is funnier and will appeal to a younger audience.
