Super Bowl Predictions 2012: Why Tim Tebow Will Make Appearance

Dan RenfroJan 14, 2012

It's about time we realize that Tim Tebow will make it to the Super Bowl.

No, the Denver Broncos aren't the best team in the AFC. No, they aren't playing the best football. No, it's not likely they'll win two consecutive road games against superior teams.

Yet, things have set up pretty nicely for Tebow and Co.

The New England Patriots are a very good football team. They had the best record in the AFC this year while only losing one game at home. Tom Brady is the best quarterback left in the AFC. Bill Belichick is one of the best coaches of all time.

Still, the team does have holes.

Their defense is putrid. Yardage-wise, the Patriots were the second worst defense in the NFL. They are average against the run but pretty terrible against the pass.

The Broncos can run the ball effectively. Against the Patriots in Week 14, the Broncos rushed for 252 yards, averaging 8.1 yards per carry. If they can get that type of production again, the result will be very different.

Remember, in their first meeting, the Broncos were leading 16-14 before they fumbled the ball on three out of four possessions (including the punt muff). All of a sudden, the Patriots were leading 27-16, a lead that they would never relinquish.

If the Broncos take care of the football, that game is completely different.

Tebow tore up the Patriots on the ground in that game. Now, he is coming off his best passing performance of his career and one of the best postseason passing performances in history.

If the Broncos take care of the ball, they will score points. On the defensive side of the ball, they are fast enough to contain Brady enough to win the game.

Also remember that all four home teams won last week. That won't happen for the second week in a row. Given the odds, multiple road teams could potentially win.

That team could be the Broncos.

Look, the Pats are a team with holes. The Broncos are a team with holes. The team that plays a more efficient game will be the team that wins.

If the Broncos defeat the Patriots, they will face either the Baltimore Ravens or the Houston Texans.

The Texans are a solid team, but their similarities to the Broncos are tough to ignore. At the end of the day, the Broncos are quicker on defense and they have the ability to shut down Arian Foster.

As for the Ravens, they are the team that will give the Broncos the most trouble. They have a great defense, great running back and solid quarterback. However, if Joe Flacco starts to turn the ball over, Ray Rice won't be as effective. If the Broncos get up on the Ravens, Flacco will have to turn to the air.

While Rice is still a factor in the passing game, he is not nearly as effective as when he runs the football. If the Broncos can take the Ravens' best player out of the game, they stand a very good chance to win.

It's a long shot, yes. Still, Tebow making the Super Bowl is more likely than you might think.

The Broncos have the formula to beat the Patriots and they nearly did it one month ago. If they eliminate those turnovers, they have a very good chance to pull the upset.

In the AFC Championship, the Broncos have the talent to eliminate the opponents' rushing attack. In doing so, they put themselves in a very good chance to win.

Tebow has proven the doubters wrong all year.

In the next two weeks, he'll continue to do that by getting the Broncos to the Super Bowl.
