Super Bowl 2012: Red-Hot Teams Sure to Make a Run at Indy

Jun 7, 2018

The road to success in the Super Bowl in the NFL was achieved by developing an outstanding run offense and having a stellar defense

For years, the perception of what the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens were was what every team in the NFL wanted to be like. Not anymore, it’s all about offense.

All of the following teams have the potent air attack to make it all the way to the big dance, but only one will walk away with the title of Super Bowl champion.

New England Patriots

There isn’t a year that goes by when Tom Brady is under center for the New England Patriots that they are not serious contenders for a Super Bowl run. They’re just that good.

With a 13-3 record this season, the Patriots dominated the AFC with a stellar passing attack and little else. Little else was needed, though.

As good as New England is, they will be facing the tsunami that is Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Despite Tebow’s lack of talent, the Broncos have become a threat after beating the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime of the Wild Card round.

We can’t forget that the Patriots beat down on the Broncos with a 41-23 score that looks closer than the game was. Brady will remind Tebow again just how good he can be with another huge win.

New Orleans Saints

Just like the Patriots, the New Orleans Saints have some of the greatest statistical offenses in the history of the sport, but their defenses couldn’t be further from good.

With Drew Brees at the helm, the Saints have been absolutely dominant in the NFC this season and will play the 13-3 San Francisco 49ers.

While from afar the 49ers look like a challenge, their lack of an elite secondary will allow Brees to control the clock and field for the Saints. As good a San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith was this season, he will not be able to keep up with Brees on the stat sheet.

If and when New Orleans gets through the 49ers, the NFC Championship between the Saints and the team below could be a meeting that alters the NFL and goes down as one of the greatest games of all-time.

Green Bay Packers

I feel like I’m in an episode of the Twilight Zone, with all of these offenses driven by passing and their defenses ranked in the bottom third, the Green Bay Packers are no different.

With Aaron Rodgers slinging the ball around to his 44 receivers like it’s a Madden game with cheats, there are very few teams that can hurt the Packers. One of those teams is the New York Giants, though.

It was in Week 13 when the Giants played Green Bay in one of the best regular season games all year. The 38-35 victory for the Packers was earned the hard way and built character, but now they have to do it again.

The Giants are one of the hardest teams in the NFL to beat in the playoffs over the last few seasons, but the potent Green Bay offense will trump the New York offensive attack in what should be another exciting game.
