Landry Jones: Oklahoma Announces QB Will Return to Sooners

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Fans of the Oklahoma Sooners are in for quite a treat with the latest news regarding the 2012 NFL draft.

Many have felt Sooners quarterback Landry Jones would be making the big jump to the NFL this year, but word has come out via ESPN's Joe Shad that Jones will actually be returning for for his senior season:

Jones will come back and try to improve on a season that saw him throw for 4,463 yards, 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

While this is undoubtedly bad news for NFL draft fans—and specifically NFL teams desperate for a quarterback—this will be looked back on as a good move for Jones.

This wasn't a spectacular season for the junior, especially considering his Sooners were ranked preseason No. 1, and another year back will really increase the chances of his draft stock going up.

The Sooners started off hot and lived up to the hype, but a huge upset to Texas Tech derailed their BCS hopes.

Sprinkle in losses to Baylor and Oklahoma State, and even a 31-14 drubbing of Iowa in the Insight Bowl couldn't spit-shine the Sooners season.

The Sooners will be glad to have Jones back, as he will play a huge role in restoring their BCS championship hopes.

From an NFL draft point of view, Jones can really benefit from taking this year to refine his skills and work on his accuracy. He's going to have to stay healthy, though, but if he plays his cards right he can make it into next years draft with a significantly higher stock.

Overall, this was an excellent decision.
