2012 NFL Mock Draft: Biggest Needs and Best Picks for NFL's Five Worst Teams

Josh SchochNov 25, 2011

We're only in Week 12 of the NFL season, yet we're already thinking about the 2012 NFL Draft. It's hard not to think about it when you realize the talent coming out of college this season. The NFL will gain can't-miss stars like Andrew Luck, Justin Blackmon and Trent Richardson.

Based on what has happened so far this season we can tell which teams will have the first picks in the 2012 Draft, and Bleacher Report has mapped out the most probable order and best players available.

No. 5 Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals will lose out to finish the season. Going 3-13 will guarantee them the fifth pick and an opportunity to address one of their many needs.

Needs: The Arizona Cardinals need to win now, and with that factor eliminating Robert Griffin they must draft an offensive lineman.

While they need upgrades in quite a few areas there aren't a lot of stars who can help them, so they will play it safe and take a lineman.

Best Pick: OT Riley Reiff, Iowa

Despite the efforts of rookie quarterback Cam Newton the Panthers will finish 3-13 and pick fourth in the NFL Draft. They will beat the Colts this week and then lose out, finishing poorly but securing a great pick.

Needs: The Panthers need another target for Newton. Right now he pretty much has to rely on Steve Smith because the other receivers are dropping passes, and defenses can focus on Smith.

While they eventually need to replace Jeff Otah on the offensive line I see them doing so in the second round and using the first round to improve their passing attack.

Best Pick: WR Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

No. 3 St. Louis Rams

The Rams will win one more game this year (home against the Arizona Cardinals), and that will give them the third pick in the NFL Draft.

Needs: The Rams' biggest need is to stay healthy as they sustained heavy losses this season, but since they can't draft health they should draft either another target for Sam Bradford or someone to stop the run.

I see the Rams thinking that they should improve their offense and help Sam Bradford become an elite quarterback before they work on anything else, and they can't miss with Justin Blackmon. The Rams will look to build an incredible receiving core of Brandon Lloyd, Danny Amendola (if they sign him) and Blackmon.

Best Pick: WR Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State

I see the Vikings losing out this season as well. They still have quite a few difficult games remaining and don't have many close ones.

Needs: The Vikings need many things, including an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. After taking their franchise-quarterback last year in the form of Christian Ponder, the Vikings need to build around him.

The Vikings have their choice of players who will pan out to be stars in WR Justin Blackmon, WR Alshon Jeffery and OT Matt Kalil. They will realize it is more important to protect Ponder and to keep him healthy than to get him a wide receiver at this points.

Best Pick: OT Matt Kalil, USC

The Colts are 0-10 and don't appear ready to win an NFL game...maybe a college game? I can't see them winning more than one game this season and that will guarantee them the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Needs: What don't the Colts need? They've shown just how bad they are without Peyton Manning under center, and the 35-year-old's career is coming to a close. The Colts should be looking to replace Manning and lucky for them Andrew Luck is guaranteed to be a star.

Luck appears to be a future Pro-Bowler and he has everything Manning has in terms of both skill and football IQ.

Despite the need for a few other positions as well, the Colts need to take this future Hall of Famer.

Best Pick: QB Andrew Luck, Stanford
