B/R NFL 1000: Ranking the Top Defensive Linemen for the 2026 Season
This is the NFL 1000. The 1,000 best players in the league, ranked by our NFL Scouting Department based on their on-field play and positional value.
Up next in the series: the defensive line. Who rises above in the trenches? Of 90 ranked D-linemen, how many crack the 80-and-above grade?
To tackle all this, our team of scouts conducted an exhaustive film review and graded every non-rookie on a 100-point scale built from position-specific traits.

Defensive linemen are graded on five categories: run defense (30 points), pass rush (25), disruptiveness (20), tackling (15) and versatility (10). Trait scores add up to the grade, and when multiple players received the same score, their ranking was determined by a majority vote among the group.

Dominated by multiple Las Vegas Raiders, whose defensive front is looking for someone to step up outside of star Maxx Crosby, this is a group that largely fills the back end of rosters.
Dorlus has the potential to become a starter and rise in future rankings if he puts things together, but he's still a work in progress.

There's still a long way to go with Williams, but the former first-round pick has the potential to develop into a long-term starter.
Bresee stands out in this group, but unfortunately will miss the 2026 season. His potential rise up the rankings will have to wait another couple of years.

The largest group of players in these rankings is known contributors, along with a couple potential rising stars.
Sweat gets a fresh start in New York after an offseason trade and could become a legitimate force if that defense comes together.
Graham, playing in a good defense even without Myles Garrett, still has some work to do, but has by far the biggest upside of the 25-ranked "functional performers".
Cleveland is hoping for a breakout year from the second-year man.

Defying age and perhaps logic, Calais Campbell, nearly 40 years young, is still a top 35 d-lineman in today's NFL. A testament to his work ethic and professionalism, he highlights a group that also includes a few potential breakout stars.
Kancey (if healthy), Ojomo, and Jones should see opportunities in 2026 to rise in future rankings.

There are legitimate playmakers in this group, headlined by Ed Oliver, who will be battling back from injuries. He has top-10 potential if he can return to form.
Davis and Turner, 26 and 27 years old, respectively, have the potential to rise in the ranks as well if they're able to improve and become more complete players.

At 32 years old and counting, Chris Jones just misses cracking the top 10 of a position he's helped headline for the better part of a decade. It's not out of the question to see him bounce back, but his career trajectory is on the down slope.
And on the flip side, Jalen Carter just received a record contract extension for the position. Sitting just outside the top 5, Philly is hoping he can develop more of a complete game, particularly improving against the run, in 2026. However, there is no denying how much of a game-wrecking threat he can be on any given play.

Arguably the tightest race for a No. 1 spot of any position group in the NFL1000, Cowboys star Quinnen Williams leads a pack of veterans all capable of unseating him at the top this season.
Dexter Lawrence was traded for the No. 10 overall pick this offseason and received a new contract as well. If a change of scenery boost is loading, "Sexy Dexy" looks like the biggest threat to rise these ranks in the immediate future.
