How Carlos Tevez to Juventus Could Start a Transfer Domino Effect
With Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez seemingly set to join Italian champions Juventus, as reported by David Ornstein at BBC Sport, the movement of players continues to accelerate.
It’s a familiar pattern at this time of year. With summer tournaments coming to a close and preseason campaigns around the corner, clubs across Europe are jostling for position in the transfer market.
In the Premier League alone, over £120 million has already been splashed on fresh talent, but history tells us there’s a lot more spending to come over the next two months.
And with the high-profile Argentina striker due to fly to Turin on Wednesday to finalise the switch, we look at the potential deals that Tevez’s move to Serie A could spark into life.
Alessandro Matri: Juventus to AC Milan
1 of 6With five strikers already on their books, Juventus will look to move at least one of their forwards on in light of Carlos Tevez’s arrival from Manchester City, and Alessandro Matri could be the first to go.
According to Football-Italia, Serie A rivals AC Milan have already shown an interest in taking Matri back to the San Siro, where the 28-year-old began his senior career in 2002.
The futures of fellow Juve forwards Fabio Quagliarella and Mirko Vucinic are also uncertain, with both players regularly rotated alongside Matri by coach Antonio Conte last season.
And with the club also heavily linked with Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain, as reported by Tim Oscroft at Sky Sports, it looks like it could be a busy summer for the Bianconeri.
Bojan Krkic: AC Milan to Liverpool
2 of 6Any arrival in the striking department at AC Milan would almost certainly end Bojan Krkic’s hopes of securing a permanent deal, with the forward already tipped to try his luck in England next term.
A report by Jack Wilson in the Daily Star suggests that Liverpool and Newcastle United have shown an interest in the 22-year-old Spaniard, who enjoyed a season-long loan at the San Siro during their last campaign.
A move to Newcastle seems unlikely, with Stuart Rayner in The Journal insisting manager Alan Pardew is on the look-out for players with proven Premier League experience.
Luis Suarez: Liverpool to Real Madrid
3 of 6Reports of Luis Suarez’s proposed move to Real Madrid have been circulating for weeks now, with this report by Antony Kastrinakis in The Sun surfacing at the end of last month.
Despite Liverpool’s hard-line approach to the situation, as covered by John Edwards in the Daily Mail, the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu could help to speed up the process.
And though Bojan Krkic would not be seen as a direct replacement for Suarez, his arrival would at least quell some of the disappointment around Anfield should they lose their Uruguayan forward.
Gonzalo Higuain: Real Madrid to Arsenal
4 of 6Another of this summer’s most drawn-out transfer sagas is Gonzalo Higuain’s proposed move from Real Madrid to Arsenal, with a £22 million deal in the pipeline according to James Dickenson in the Daily Express.
And should Luis Suarez’s switch to the Bernabeu finally come to fruition, Higuain’s departure would be swift, with the Uruguayan moving ahead of him in the pecking order.
Though rumours surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo persist, Madrid president Florentino Perez is adamant that his future lies in the Spanish capital, as according to Spanish newspaper 20 minutos (h/t Sky Sports).
In the eyes of many, Suarez would present a like-for-like alternative to Ronaldo, both commercially and otherwise, but Higuain’s departure now seems more of a formality than a possibility.
Laurent Koscielny: Arsenal to Bayern Munich
5 of 6While a striker for a defender might not like seem a logical swap, Arsenal’s stringent spending policy in the transfer market could make a big-money bid for Laurent Koscielny hard to ignore.
The centre-back was linked with a move to Bayern Munich by Darren Witcoop of Mirror Football, with the European champions allegedly keen on the Frenchman as well as La Liga giants Barcelona.
Despite a report in the Daily Mail from Jim van Wijk suggesting Koscielny is happy to stay in North London, it remains to be seen whether a firm offer from Bayern would change his mind.
Mario Gomez: Bayern Munich to Chelsea
6 of 6Despite reassurances from new Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola that he remains very much part of his plans, the future of Mario Gomez is the subject of much speculation.
Jose Mourinho was linked with a move for the striker before he was even unveiled as Chelsea manager, and according John Edwards in the Daily Mail, the fee involved is £25 million.
The German target man has been prolific in front of goal since his move from Stuttgart four years ago, netting 113 times in 174 appearances for the Bundesliga champions.
And a switch to Stamford Bridge would have obvious repercussions for Chelsea’s current forward line and intensify talk surrounding the immediate future of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku.
