2012 NFL Mock Draft: How Are Prospects Rising and Falling After the Combine
The 2012 NFL combine provided plenty of excitement and drama for the top prospects, who are looking to show how valuable they are in this year's NFL draft.
Many prospects have improved their draft positioning with good combine performances, while others are falling on team's draft boards.
Has Robert Griffin sealed his fate as the second prospect taken in the draft? What prospect enters the top 10 after having an impressive effort at the combine?
Here is my second 2012 NFL mock draft of the offseason.

1. Indianapolis Colts: QB Andrew Luck
1 of 32Andrew Luck's performance at the NFL combine only increases his chances of becoming the new quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts.
On Sunday, Luck provided the athletic dimension he brings to the quarterback position.
In the 40-yard dash, he posted an unofficial time of 4.59 and an official time of 4.67.
It's too early to call Luck the next Peyton Manning, but his potential alone is making the decision easier for Jim Irsay.
2. Cleveland Browns ( Via St. Louis Rams): QB Robert Griffin III
2 of 32Robert Griffin III is continuing to impress many teams at the combine.
First, his performance in the 40-yard dash was the best among this year's quarterback prospects. His unofficial time of 4.38 and official time of 4.41 shows the athletic ability that the Heisman winner possesses.
He also continued to demonstrate his poise at his press conference, which was received well by the media members on hand.
The Cleveland Browns were among the teams that met with Griffin III and appear to be the likely team to move up to the second-overall spot. Head coach Pat Shurmur hasn't said publicly if the Browns will upgrade at the quarterback position.
However, he hasn't exactly defended Colt McCoy.
They need an upgrade at the quarterback position in order to compete in the AFC North.
3. Minnesota Vikings: OL Matt Kalil
3 of 32Matt Kalil's draft stock hasn't changed too much during the NFL combine. Instead, the opinion of Kalil continues to be reinforced.
He is clearly the best offensive lineman in this year's draft and is a guaranteed top-five selection.
The Minnesota Vikings can go in a few directions with the third-overall pick. However, protecting quarterback Christian Ponder needs to be the top priority.
Meet your new left tackle, Mr. Ponder.
4. St. Louis Rams (Via Cleveland Browns): WR Justin Blackmon
4 of 32The NFL combine has been a big showcase for the receivers this year, who have improved their draft stock this weekend.
Justin Blackmon is still the best wide receiver in this year's draft and will be the first prospect off the board.
The St. Louis Rams have a huge void to fill on the offensive side of the ball. Sam Bradford needs a playmaker on the outside.
Blackmon is an immediate fix in the passing game and will relieve Steven Jackson of becoming the only contributor on offense.
Jeff Fisher is a big fan of Bradford and can help his growth with the addition of Blackmon.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: CB Morris Claiborne
5 of 32Morris Claiborne has separated himself as the best cornerback prospect in this year's draft.
Last season, he anchored an LSU defense that made an appearance in the national championship game.
His strength and athleticism cannot be taught. Simply put, he is the best natural cornerback in this draft class.
And he will find a new home in Tampa Bay. Greg Schiano is a defensive-minded coach, and he will work on improving this unit next season.
Ronde Barber is nearing retirement, and Aquib Talib can never be counted on with his track record.
6. Washington Redskins: WR Michael Floyd
6 of 32The Washington Redskins could be in a tricky situation with the sixth-overall pick. After missing out on Robert Griffin, the Redskins should continue to add playmakers on the offense.
Michael Floyd is the kind of receiver that Mike Shanahan would want in his offense. Floyd was arguably the most impressive receiver at the combine after showing his speed in the 40-yard dash.
With an unofficial time of 4.42 and an official time of 4.47, Floyd's supposed "weakness" in his game doesn't appear to be as big of a concern.
His physicality before and after the catch makes him quite an intriguing prospect. In an offense that is lacking consistency from its receivers, Floyd could be the answer to the Redskins' problems.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: DE Quinton Coples
7 of 32The Jacksonville Jaguars are in need of an upgrade to their defensive line, which was a weak point to an otherwise solid unit.
Enter Quinton Coples. His ability to put constant pressure on the quarterback makes him one of the top prospects in this year's class.
But, that is only a crucial strong point in Quinton's game. His run-stopping technique will come into play right away for the Jaguars, who have struggled to contain top running backs on a consistent basis.
Ultimately, Coples is the entire package when it comes to defensive lineman. This is a no-brainer for the Jaguars.
8. Miami Dolphins: QB Ryan Tannehill
8 of 32It's a quarterback-driven league. With three quarterbacks being selected within the top eight picks overall, it's clear the importance of possessing a franchise quarterback.
The Miami Dolphins will be heading in a new direction at the quarterback position. Ryan Tannehill is the fit that head coach Joe Philbin is looking for.
Tannehill possesses athleticism similar to Aaron Rodgers, who Philbin worked with in Green Bay.
Tannehill's former college coach, Mike Sherman, is now the offensive coordinator with the Dolphins.
It appears to be a perfect match for Miami.
9. Carolina Panthers: DT Michael Brockers
9 of 32Michael Brockers has been a hot commodity at the NFL combine. He is the best defensive tackle in this year's class, and his talent has warranted him a high draft selection.
Thirty-one teams are expected to meet with Brockers, and he is likely to be selected within the first 10 picks of the draft.
The Carolina Panthers struggled on defense in Ron Rivera's first year. Specifically, the defensive line proved to be a weak point in all facets of the game.
Brockers will make an immediate impact on the young Panthers defense.
10. Buffalo Bills: DE Melvin Ingram
10 of 32The Buffalo Bills must continue to build on the defensive side of the football. It is a great possibility that the Bills will continue to build a dominant defensive line as the foundation of their defense.
Melvin Ingram created havoc at South Carolina and anchored the Gamecocks defense last season.
He will join an improving Marcell Dareus on a young defensive front.
11. Kansas City Chiefs: OT Riley Reiff
11 of 32The Kansas City Chiefs fell short of an AFC West title despite dealing with many injuries on the roster.
During the course of the season, the offensive line was a big weakness on this Chiefs team. There was no stability at the tackle position, which at one point had to turn to Jared Gaither as a starter.
Riley Reiff was another standout player under head coach Kirk Ferentz. Reiff will be a great run blocker and should open lanes for Jamaal Charles over the next few seasons.
Matt Cassel will have his best group of offensive linemen beginning next season.
12. Seattle Seahawks: Luke Kuechly
12 of 32The Seattle Seahawks finished the latest season on a high note after hitting their stride in the month of December. In order to close the gap with the 49ers, they must find a linebacker who can anchor the young defense.
Luke Kuechly is the best linebacker in the draft and was a dominant player for Boston College the last few seasons.
It is a no-brainer for Pete Carroll to significantly upgrade the defense.
13. Arizona Cardinals: OL Jonathan Martin
13 of 32Jonathan Martin continued to keep pace with the other top lineman prospects in the draft and will be a first-round draft pick in April.
He will be coveted by the Arizona Cardinals, who are in desperate need of a new offensive tackle.
Kevin Kolb did not have a successful campaign in his first year as a starter with Arizona. Injuries plagued his season, and he was never able to play behind a consistent offensive line.
Martin will be given a big task early on in his career, whether it is protecting Kolb or another quarterback with the Cardinals.
14. Dallas Cowboys: Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick
14 of 32The Dallas Cowboys faltered last season due in part to a struggling defense. For the last few years, the secondary has been to blame for the team's recent failures.
Dre Kirkpatrick led an experienced Alabama secondary to the national championship last season. Jerry Jones is going to select a cornerback in the first round this year.
Since Kirkpatrick possesses the talent and character to be successful in the league, the decision has been practically made for the Cowboys.
15. Philadelphia Eagles: OG David DeCastro
15 of 32The Philadelphia Eagles finished on a high note, but did not live up to the expectations given to them in preseason.
One of the few concerns on this team is the health of Michael Vick and the protection he is receiving up front.
David DeCastro is the best guard in this year's draft, and spent the last few seasons providing good protection for Andrew Luck.
Vick will carry his momentum into 2012 with an improved offensive line.
16. New York Jets: RB Trent Richardson
16 of 32Rex Ryan and the New York Jets are ecstatic about selecting Trent Richardson.
The value of running backs has decreased greatly when it comes to first-round selections. Since Richardson did have offseason knee surgery, a few more teams will be scared off by Richardson in the first round.
However, the Jets will pounce on the opportunity to draft the Alabama product. Richardson would provide a great combination with Shonn Greene and revamp what once was a strong running attack in New York.
17. Cincinnati Bengals: S Mark Barron
17 of 32The Cincinnati Bengals are one of the younger teams in the NFL and are certainly on the rise. After appearing in the playoffs last season, the Bengals will look to compete for the AFC North title next season.
They acquired this pick through the Carson Palmer trade, which allows them to go after the best player available on their board.
With a boost needed in the secondary, the Bengals will turn to another Alabama defensive player. Mark Barron is the best safety in this year's draft and will fill the void in the young Bengals defense.
18. San Diego Chargers: LB Courtney Upshaw
18 of 32The Alabama Crimson Tide have dominated the first round of the 2012 NFL draft.
This time, linebacker Courtney Upshaw is off to the Chargers. Upshaw is a great value pick for the Chargers, who probably didn't expect him to be on the board this late.
He has a quick reaction and defends draws, screens and reverses well. Despite his size, he is successful in taking on blockers.
Coming from a team run by Nick Saban, Upshaw will be an easy player to coach beginning in his rookie season.
19. Chicago Bears: DT Jerel Worthy
19 of 32The foundation for the Chicago Bears has been defense, and the focus of the first round won't be any different.
A clear weakness on the Bears defense is the defensive front, which is an aging unit and lacking athleticism across the depth chart.
Jerel Worthy fits the kind of defensive tackle that the Bears are looking for. He isn't going to record many sacks over the course of a season, but his speed makes him an instant playmaker on this veteran defense.
20. Tennessee Titans: DE Whitney Mercilus
20 of 32Yes, I am agreeing with Mel Kiper on a late first-round draft prediction.
Whitney Mercilus' draft stock grew after a fantastic season by leading the nation in sacks.
The Titans' made a mistake in drafting Derrick Morgan with their first-round a pick a few seasons ago.
Mercilus fits the form of a potential elite pass-rusher who can make an impact in the AFC South.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: G Cordy Glenn
21 of 32The Cincinnati Bengals exceeded their expectations this past season by making an appearance in the postseason.
Andy Dalton captivated a great rookie campaign and should grow after a full off season of workouts.
However, the offensive line for the Bengals is a question mark, which has been an issue the last few seasons.
Cordy Glenn were among the few prospects that benefited most from the combine. The Bengals could be in need of a few guards this offseason, and drafting Glenn only adds to the youth that this team is building.
22. Cleveland Browns: WR Kendall Wright
22 of 32Kendall Wright's appears to be a guaranteed first round selection.
Wright has drawn comparisons to Mike Wallace for his speed and play making ability in the open field.
The Cleveland Browns have been in a severe drought when it comes to drafting quality wide receivers.
With a new quarterback coming to town, the Browns need to begin adding talented receivers on the outside.
Griffin III will enjoy throwing passes to his former college teammate.
23. Washington Redskins (Via Detroit Lions): QB Brock Osweiler
23 of 32The Washington Redskins have to address the quarterback position in the offseason. General manager Bruce Allen and head coach Mike Shanahan want to find their quarterback through the draft.
Owner Dan Snyder is known for allowing big trades to happen on draft day. The Redskins move back into the first round to select quarterback Brock Osweiler.
Osweiler does fit the mold of a Shanahan-type quarterback. He has the ability to make all of the throws, especially on the run.
His athleticism must stand out to the Redskins coaching staff. He will have to adjust to a pro-style offense, but Shanahan is willing to develop a quarterback who shows great potential.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: OT Mike Adams
24 of 32The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to play at an elite level while also rebuilding parts of the team.
Despite the need of drafting a defensive tackle, the offensive line has to be a concern for the Steelers.
Ben Roethlisberger won't be able to handle the consistent pressure he receives from opposing defenses over his career.
Mike Adams, who was a standout at Ohio State last season, will make an impact early on the Steelers offensive line.
The Steelers are fortunate that a young, talented lineman falls this late in the first round.
25. Denver Broncos: DT Fletcher Cox
25 of 32The Denver Broncos did not receive much production from their defensive tackles last season. They weren't capable of providing pressure on the quarterback and struggled to create open lanes for linebacker Von Miller.
Fletcher Cox is the perfect fit for John Fox's defense. He is a relentless pass-rusher who is difficult to bring down on every snap.
He has a quick first step and collapses the pocket no matter where he is on the defensive front.
26. Houston Texans: DT Devon Still
26 of 32Another defensive tackle is selected in the first round.
The Houston Texans defense was one of the better units in the league. However, they lacked a consistent defensive tackle who has the potential to create havoc and give his teammates opportunities.
Devon Still has shown the potential to be a Pro-Bowl caliber lineman who has the ability to dominate when giving full effort.
With an experienced defense led by Wade Phillips, the Texans have a good opportunity to turn Still into a quality lineman early on in his NFL career.
27. New England Patriots ( Via New Orleans Saints)- DE Chandler Jones
27 of 32The New England Patriots need to find another pass rusher in the event they return to a 3-4 scheme.
Chandler Jones is considered to be a late first round pick, and is potentially a good fit for the Bill Belichick defense.
He possesses top end speed and above-average agility.
Not only can he bring a good outside pass rush, but he possesses speed that will allow the Patriots to use him in many different formations.
If the Patriots stick with the 4-3, he will play well as a defensive end. However, if they return to the 3-4, he can covert to an outside line backer.
28. Green Bay Packers: DE Andre Branch
28 of 32The Green Bay Packers lacked a consistent pass rush in the playoffs, which led to their elimination after one game.
Andre Branch provides the necessary depth to become a late first-round selection for the Packers.
While Branch can provide pressure on the quarterback, he also has the ability to drop back in coverage and find other ways to make an impact on every passing play.
29. Baltimore Ravens: LB Vontaze Burfict
29 of 32The Baltimore Ravens must continue to add youth to their experienced defense. The linebacker position needs to be addressed this offseason.
Multiple linebackers could either be cut or sign with another team during the free-agency period. More importantly, the Ravens must find the successor to Ray Lewis.
Vontaze Burfict is arguably the best linebacker in the draft, but has been known as a player who doesn't always give a full effort.
If there's anyone who can get the most out of a young, talented linebacker, it is Ray Lewis.
30. San Francisco 49ers: WR Alshon Jeffery
30 of 32The San Francisco 49ers lacked production from their wide receivers.
Michael Crabtree isn't capable of being a No. 1 receiver on this team, and Vernon Davis can't be the only reliable target for Alex Smith.
Alshon Jeffery's draft stock has dropped after not participating at the combine. However, he is a first-round selection and will be an immediate playmaker in San Francisco.
31. New England Patriots: DE Nick Perry
31 of 32The New England Patriots must continue to build a defensive line around Vince Wilfork.
Wilfork is the only consistent pass-rusher on the team, and an upgrade at the defensive end position is needed.
Nick Perry emerged as the most consistent pass-rusher on USC in his junior year. With 9.5 sacks last year, Perry shows enough potential that warrants him a first-round selection.
32. New York Giants: TE Coby Fleener
32 of 32The New York Giants need to address the depth at the tight end position.
With two tight ends sustaining serious injuries in the Super Bowl, the Giants must draft a tight end early on in the draft.
Coby Fleener was the security blanket for Andrew Luck and shows his top speed often by separating himself from defenders.
