NFL Power Rankings: Dolphins and Top 5 Andrew Luck Suitors

Wes ODonnellOct 18, 2011

There are still three winless teams in the NFL. It is hard to believe, but all three have played some terrible football and had some bad luck along the way.

Ironically, the one thing that they will need to land Luck (as in Stanford QB Andrew Luck) is more pitiful play.

The three teams have combined to score a total of 228 points this season. The Packers have scored 197 points by themselves. It is remarkable these teams play in the same league sometimes, and it is unlikely that the Rams, Colts or Dolphins will get better any time soon.

But the Rams have a franchise quarterback already. What they're missing is a ton of talent elsewhere.

Should they land the No. 1 spot, they'll likely leverage it to acquire several more picks.

With that in mind, here is a list of the top five teams chasing the Stanford gunslinger.

1. Green Bay Packers (6-0)
2. New England Patriots (5-1)
3. San Francisco 49ers (5-1)
4. Detroit Lions (5-1)
5. Baltimore Ravens (4-1)
6. San Diego Chargers (4-1)
7. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)
8. Oakland Raiders (4-2)
9. New York Giants (4-2)
10. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)
11. Buffalo Bills (4-2)
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)
13. New Orleans Saints (4-2)
14. Tennessee Titans (3-2)
15. Washington Redskins (3-2)
16. Chicago Bears (3-3)
17. Atlanta Falcons (3-3)
18. New York Jets (3-3)
19. Dallas Cowboys (2-3)
20. Houston Texans (3-3)
21. Seattle Seahawks (2-3)
22. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)
23. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)
24. Cleveland Browns (2-3)
25. Minnesota Vikings (1-5)
26. Arizona Cardinals (1-4)
27. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5)
28. Denver Broncos (1-4)
29. Carolina Panthers (1-5)
30. Miami Dolphins (0-5)
31. Indianapolis Colts (0-6)
32. St. Louis Rams (0-5)

1. Miami Dolphins (0-5)

The Miami Dolphins are going to fire coach Tony Sparano sooner than later. That means they're own the verge of a total overhaul.

Fortunately for them, they have a first-round rookie center, Pro Bowl left tackle and a rookie running back who looks legitimate.

They also happen to have a receiver who can dominate when given the opportunity. That opportunity hasn't been in a Dolphins uniform since Dan Marino left.

This fanbase desperately wants to "Suck for Luck" the rest of this season and with good reason.

The biggest problem is their defense sometimes plays well and might actually win them a game or two.

The race for Luck will likely come down to one or two wins.

2. Indianapolis Colts (0-6)

2 of 5

Only the Dolphins have more cause to "Suck for Luck" than the Colts.

Indianapolis knows its season is over, and also knows a player like Luck doesn't come around very often.

In fact, the last time one did, the Colts drafted him No. 1 overall.

The Colts have no reason to win football games other than the players' pride. That is a huge obstacle and you always want to win when you go on the field, but this organization and fanbase have to silently be rooting for one or two wins at most.

3. Denver Broncos (1-4)

3 of 5

This is all about Tim Tebow.

If he fails to inspire and win football games, then at least the organization and fanbase know it.

If he can rally the troops around him and carry them to a few wins on his back, then they won't even be close to discussion for Andrew Luck.

But with John Elway's Stanford ties and this fanbase's desire to effectively replace him (he retired after the Super Bowl win in 1999), it has to be an option.

Plain and simple: If Tebow fails, don't be surprised if the Broncos do everything possible to get Andrew Luck.

4. Seattle Seahawks (2-3)

4 of 5

The Seahawks are a question mark every time they take the field.

They lose to teams they should beat. Beat teams they should be blown out against. And they have two quarterbacks that, when combined together, still wouldn't equal one.

It is hard to say exactly how many losses the Seahawks will have, but they could very easily implode coming out of this bye week.

Even if they don't earn the No. 1 pick, they are a threat to trade up for Luck.

5. Dallas Cowboys (2-3)

5 of 5

What if Tony Romo isn't the answer?

He can keep this team in as many close games as he wants, but losing is still losing.

If the Cowboys somehow end up with another top 10 pick (and it is a big if), there is nothing to say Jerry Jones wouldn't do anything and everything possible to move up the draft board.

Romo has been given countless chances and if there were ever a quarterback prospect to dump a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback for, it is Andrew Luck.

Not saying it is going to happen, but it is a thought that definitely comes into play if the Cowboys don't make the postseason and have another high draft choice.
