LeBron James Talks Eastern Conference Finals, Possible Celtics or 76ers Matchup
The lack of home-court advantage in the second round of the playoffs against the Toronto Raptors wasn't an issue for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and LeBron James is ready to go on the road again in the conference finals.
"We don't have home court, so we're going on the road no matter what," he said when talking about the impending matchup against either the Boston Celtics or Philadelphia 76ers. "... We'll be ready for Game 1 no matter if it's in Philly or in Boston."
Winning on the road in pressure-packed situations will be nothing new for this Cavaliers squad.
Cleveland found itself behind by double digits in Game 1 of its second-round sweep against the Raptors before battling back and eventually winning in overtime. It then seized a commanding 2-0 lead by winning in Toronto again, all but ensuring it would knock the Raptors out of the playoffs for the third straight year.
The Cavaliers also lost their home-court advantage in the first round against the Indiana Pacers when they dropped Game 1 at Quicken Loans Arena. They had to win it back with a hard-fought victory in Game 4, which proved crucial since Cleveland needed all seven games to finally dispatch of Indiana.
Cleveland was 2-1 against Boston during the regular season and 2-2 against Philadelphia, although a potential playoff matchup with the Celtics won't feature All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving after his knee surgery.
Boston leads 3-1 in its showdown with Philadelphia for the right to play Cleveland, and it would be in the Cavaliers' best interest for that series to continue into a sixth or seventh game.
James led the NBA in total minutes this season, his 15th in the league. He even granted he was "burnt right now" after beating the Pacers, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com. Any additional rest the 33-year-old gets while the Celtics and 76ers battle each other figures to be beneficial moving forward.
A well-rested James will serve the Cavaliers well because they will have to win at least one game on the road against either team to clinch their spot in a fourth straight NBA Finals.
