Kevin Durant Reportedly Urged to Meet Nets and Knicks by Jay Z Amid Free Agency
Kevin Durant has no shortage of options at his disposal as one of the hottest free agents in NBA history, but the four-time scoring champion reportedly has no interest in the Big Apple despite the urging of agent Jay Z.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical (h/t Chris Yuscavage of Complex.com), the rap legend and head of Roc Nation Sports attempted to convince Durant to meet with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks, but he declined.
According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, Durant scheduled visits with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
Per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, one of Durant's friends indicated he is "90 percent" likely to return to the Thunder.
Jay Z is a New York native and former part-owner of the Nets, but with little to offer Durant in terms of winning and contending for a championship immediately, his reported lack of interest is understandable.
The Knicks are seemingly closer to making some noise with a core of Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick Rose, but since Durant played for a team that came within one win of the NBA Finals last season, going to New York would likely be a step in the wrong direction with regard to his pursuit of a title.
Durant is a seven-time All-Star coming off a season that saw him average 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, and he is a franchise-changing player no matter where he signs.
Both the Nets and the Knicks would have moved much closer to the NBA's upper echelon with Durant in the fold, but after years of falling short of his ultimate goal, it stands to reason that KD is more interested in a situation that is tailor-made to win it all in 2016-17 and beyond.
