Goldust and Stardust vs. The Usos: Winner and Reaction from 2014 Hell in a Cell
Goldust and Stardust proved that their victory over The Usos at Night of Champions was no fluke Sunday night at Hell in a Cell as they successfully retained the WWE Tag Team Championships.
The Cosmic Twins ended The Usos' six-month reign as champions last month, and they were unwilling to relinquish the titles so quickly. The two brotherly teams have been going at it for the past couple of months, but Sunday's result may have signaled the end of their feud.
Javier Morales noted after the match that the two teams put on a great show thanks to their familiarity with each other:
As Bryan points out, though, Jimmy and Jey were able to incorporate plenty of breathtaking offense in an effort to regain the titles:
WWE Universe captured Goldust and Stardust after they were able to retain the straps:
While Jimmy and Jey Uso got the better of the champs on several occasions between Night of Champions and Hell in a Cell, Goldust was supremely confident that he and his brother would come away victorious:
In what is currently a razor-thin WWE tag team division, Goldust and Stardust as well as The Usos have been carrying the mail as of late. They had an excellent match at Night of Champions, and their rematch didn't disappoint at Hell in a Cell either.
It can be argued that The Usos are the best WWE tag team to come along in a very long time from an in-ring perspective. Goldust and Stardust excel in that regard too, but their popularity is based more on their off-the-wall gimmick.
As seen in this video courtesy of WWE's Instagram account, Gold and Stardust are as zany and unpredictable as they come:
In fact, the only thing that may be more unpredictable than the Tag Team champions at this point is where they go from here. The lack of depth has essentially forced the creative team to pit them against The Usos as of late, but it is difficult to imagine that rivalry continuing now that Gold and Stardust have defeated them at consecutive pay-per-view events.
Unfortunately, there aren't many other options. Among the other teams on the roster are Los Matadores, Slater Gator and the duo of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, although it is unclear if the latter pairing will remain together.
WWE also has The Ascension seemingly ready to be called up from NXT, although Konnor and Viktor are best as a heel team, so it wouldn't necessarily make much sense for them to go up against another heel team in Goldust and Stardust.
No matter who is placed in front of the titleholders next, Goldust has made it clear they won't be parting with the championships any time soon:
Perhaps the biggest challenge will be for The Usos to remain relevant if they are removed from the tag title scene. WWE hasn't made much effort to build teams other than the ones that are vying for the straps, so Jimmy and Jey could potentially get lost in the shuffle.
They are too talented from a wrestling standpoint to be forgotten, but it remains to be seen if WWE can build multiple tag team angles at the same time.
Even though the current state of tag team wrestling in WWE is somewhat dire, Goldust, Stardust and The Usos put on another great exhibition at Hell in a Cell. If they continue to turn in similar efforts moving forward, then perhaps there is hope for a tag team renaissance.
