El Grande Americano Beats Dom Mysterio to Win Mega Title in Historic WWE x AAA Triplemania 34

El Grande Americano beat Dominik Mysterio in the main event of Night 2 of Triplemanía 34 in Mexico City on Sunday to win the AAA Mega Championship.

Over the past year, El Grande Americano has established himself as one of the biggest stars in all of lucha libre, and Sunday represented the most significant opportunity of his career.

Americano earned a future shot at the AAA Mega Championship at Rey de Reyes back in March, but it took some time before he got to cash in on that opportunity.

That is primarily due to the fact that he first had to conclude his rivalry with the original El Grande Americano, resulting in a mask vs. mask match at Noche de Los Grandes in May.

Grande won what was among the best matches of the year in all of pro wrestling, and the original El Grande Americano was revealed to be Chade Gable.

After that, Grande's focus shifted toward Dirty Dom and the AAA Mega Championship, and it wasn't long before his feud with Mysterio became a heated one.

During a tag team match against Los Perros del Mal, Dominik turned his back on Grande and allowed him to be outnumbered. Shortly thereafter, Dom stacked the deck in his favor even more by aligning himself with Dorian Roldán and Omos.

While Dom was once a favorite of the Mexican crowd, El Grande Americano won them over in the months leading up to Triplemanía, making Mysterio the clear heel.

A Grande win was far from guaranteed, though, as Dominik entered Triplemanía with a yearlong title reign and a willingness to do anything in order to keep the belt.

Despite that, El Grande Americano secured the biggest victory of his career on Sunday, much to the delight of the fans in Mexico City.
