Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets: What Are the Experts Saying About Denver?

Joe Rapolla Jr.Oct 10, 2014

The Denver Broncos are 3-1 and just are coming off a definitive 41-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals

The New York Jets are 1-4, having lost their last four contests and are embroiled in a quarterback controversy that involves their starter, Geno Smith, and their backup, veteran Michael Vick.

Needless to say, Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium is not looking good for the Jets. Besides the fact that they are playing host and thereby have home-field advantage, there is nothing else going in New York's favor for this one.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan isn't even acting like his team has a chance, saying, "It's a joke. They're loaded offensively."

Real inspiring coaching words there, Rex.

You can probably guess, but let's see what the experts have to say about this Sunday's matchup between the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets.

Rich Cimini: The New York Jets Have No Answer for Peyton Manning

1 of 5

ESPN.com's New York Jets reporter, Rich Cimini, wrote on Thursday that the Jets have openly admitted to not knowing what to do to slow down Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning

If Manning had high school receivers to throw to, he could probably still throw a handful of touchdowns. The fact that he is surrounded by elite talent in Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Wes Welker and Julius Thomas makes the attempts to slow him down very difficult.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said that the Jets "have to be like that goalie [Henrik Lundqvist] for the [New York] Rangers."

Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman was more direct. When asked by Cimini how they play to stop Manning and the Denver offense, Thurman replied, "That's really funny."

But is it, Dennis? Is it?

Jeff Legwold: The Broncos Are Hungry for More Sacks

2 of 5

ESPN.com's Denver Broncos reporter, Jeff Legwold says, that Denver Broncos pass-rushers are ready to get some more sacks.

Particularly, he writes that outside linebacker Von Miller and defensive end DeMarcus Ware are really looking to get to the quarterback more and prove that the Denver defense is for real.

The New York Jets have done an above-average job at protecting quarterback Geno Smith this season, who has only been sacked eight times.

While Smith and the Jets offense have proven that they don't need quarterback pressure to be unproductive, a swift attack from Miller, Ware and Co. can only hurt the Jets' chances and lead to more offensive errors.

Let's put the Denver over/under sack count for this game at 3.5.

Kyle Montgomery: Beware of the Jets Pass Rush

3 of 5

Kyle Montgomery of The Mile High Report was in rare company when he actually noted something the New York Jets have done well this season.

The 1-4 squad actually leads the league with 17 sacks.

While their record won't wow anyone, there's no denying that the Jets pass rush has been a unit to fear this season.

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox and quarterback Peyton Manning are well aware of this and aren't taking it lightly.

"Our guys look at the tape. They don't look at records," said Fox.

Wise words from a great coach right there.

Bleacher Report Experts: Broncos Across the Board

4 of 5

All 16 Bleacher Report experts picked the Denver Broncos to win on Sunday.

That's pretty much all there is to say about that.

My colleague, Gary Davenport, put it best in regards to anyone picking the New York Jets: "There isn't enough tequila on Earth to make this pick look good."

Sadly true.

Vegas: Broncos Win a Blowout

5 of 5

The sharks in the desert have spoken, and they have made the Denver Broncos 10-point favorites in this one.

Generally speaking, that line is rather conservative given the facts that the New York Jets just lost 31-0 to the San Diego Chargers last weekend.

Perhaps Vegas is accounting for garbage time, or perhaps they are thinking that Denver will be up so much that the backups might be in.

Our friends at OddsShark have assigned the game an over/under of 48, so the Vegas final score (over/under and spread combined) would be 29-19 in favor of the Broncos.

Personally, I'll be shocked if it's that close.
